Shaming Open Time Wh0re5 Works Well....
Hey Glenn and my friends at UPS,
I'm really sorry that you guys/gals are being subjected to this by a profitable, albeit unprincipled company. While it is unconscionable behavior for your management to lay off while you are still profitable and give oneself bonuses, it is even MORE unconscionable for your fellow crewmembers to enhance their wallets through open time while your furloughees suffer.
The IPA I remember from the mid to late 90's still impresses me today, thinking back to the 100% compliance in honoring the IBT Strike 13 years ago. If I recall correctly, Open Time was banned and nearly all pilots honorably complied with that too. Have some become more greedy and selfish? If so, they should be educated and here's an idea that you all might throw around:
Back when Grand Aire was a major subcontractor flying for UPS, the pilots chose to organize under the IBT due to draconian working conditions. Two weeks later, the Company announced a layoff and cherry-picked whom they laid off (overwhelmingly MEC members, organizers, etc., and a few current UPS'ers I believe). Since the IBT did little to help us, we chose to help ourselves...
You probably remember that we were an overwhelmingly close knit group, and that unity allowed us to stand firm in support of the IPA and IBT during the strike.... But you may not know the story of how the GAE pilots forced management to recall our "furloughees".... Well, it was through SHAME and family awareness.. There were a few "team players" (we referred these kissa55es disparagingly as "Tango Pops") who continued to fly open time, run around being office boys for the DO and CP, and generally kiss a55. Well, after repeated calls to them to stop, the wive's and children took over... because they were close knit, too. One day the wives of the furloughed pilots showed up at the "Tango Pops" doorsteps, children in hand. They persuaded the wive's of the "Tango Pops" that their husbands kissing up and flying open time was jeopardizing the families of the furloughed. This "whisper on the pillow" effectively shamed our few greedy pilots into compliance with the open time ban. Also, planes just happened to be grounded all across the country. Three weeks later, with management pilots timed out, burned out, and trips canceled, the company recalled all pilots.
Why not send the furloughed and active members from the IPA Spouses/Mom's/Dad's Club to go to talk to these people and their families face to face. Be nice, not confrontational, bring cookies and a camera, and oh, by the way... "Your husband's/wives' flying open time is keeping us from feeding our families".. Don't forget to bring the kids. Maybe they just don't realize the effect of just one pilot flying open time during a furlough... If they do, a little ostracizing from the Mom's/Dad's Club might help.. A little Shame just might work for you all, too. Just an idea...
Best of luck to all during these tough times...

It is gonna be hard to take the wife and kids to the door step of some ***** house in philipines and make some hooker feel guilty because of these greedy granpa's are picking up open times to support thier 22 yr prostitute. These guys have no shame and most no family to care for rather just a cheap hooker. That tactic will work on someone with a real soul and heart unfortunatly what we're dealing with here is GREEEEEEEEEEED & PROSTITUTES
Criticism is one thing, and deserved in this case, but spewing incorrect venom like that is uncalled for.

Brownie: I know the guy and don't like him any more than you do, but get your facts straight before you throw cr@p like that around. The Dbag in question lives in SoCal and is a slam clicker on trips. Only occasionally flies pac rim, and BTW we don't lay over in CRK any more.

Many people who live in socal have a nevada address and cell....It is not right but I can see their point. Why pay money into a liberal system that is set out to destroy what was once such a great state. pelosi, etc etc...
The illegals and the liberals who support them has been the downfall of that state.....it will not get better until california adopts the Arizona plan

Naven: I think you're right, I remembered he was pretty close to SoCal - Nevada is probably correct. I can't stand this guy either, and he won't be riding on my jseat, but that being said - I don't think the comments about his reason for picking up the asia trip were accurate, or called for.
YMMV.
