FDX - 777 rumor?
The rumor of the week seems to be that FDX is in discussions with a major international airline to purchase all of their 777's (I assume pax birds to be converted to freighters?).
Maybe our 4.a.2.b bucks will be used to pay for them?
It would be nice if we won the 777 pay grievance prior to receiving these additional jets? (I must be smoking something if I really believe that?)

All of Singapore Airlines' 777-212s are the Extended Range (ER) models, featuring centre fuel tanks for maximum storage. The airline, however, has classified only the 9V-SV* registered series of aircraft as 777-200ERs as those planes are certified to 656,000 lb (298,000 kg) Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) and fly the longer intercontinental routes. The 9V-SR* and 9V-SQ* registered aircraft feature de-rated engines which can be electronically re-programmed to produce more thrust and thus operate longer flights at higher MTOWs if needed. The airline announced the order of 19 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in August 2004 with the order signed on 23 December 2004, during which an unused option for the Boeing 777 family was converted into an order for Boeing 777-300ER. Singapore Airlines became the world's largest operator of the Boeing 777 when it took delivery of its 58th such aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, on 6 May 2005,[21] and has 71 in its fleet as of 15 March 2008.[22] The airline's new Boeing 777-300ERs entered commercial service on 5 December 2006, on the Singapore-Paris route. Coincidently, this aircraft introduced Singapore Airlines' new First Class, Business Class, and Economy Class products. Singapore Airlines also recently took delivery of the 600th 777 produced.[23] Singapore Airlines has announced a cabin refit program for the 777 fleet of aircraft (minus the 777-300ER) which has commenced with the 777-300 aircraft type. The planes will feature the "New" First Class, the "New" Regional Business Class seat, and the improved Economy Class product offered on board the A330-300, A380-800 and 777-300ER aircraft. The first flight with the new cabin took place from Singapore - Sydney on 22 July 2009.

The P-F conversion of the 777-200 series is the issue to be resolved before I would believe any rumor about a large purchase.
Rumor is that the floor isn't stressed for freight weights and the "cheapest & fastest" conversion for the -200 is changing out the current "tube" with a new freight "tube" -- disassembly & reassembly of the entire a/c. Maybe someone here has better intel from Boeing? Sounds like an expensive proposition, if true.

talked to a FDX MX type who was working with boeing on the p to f 777. He said it was A done deal and we were the launch customer. less payload gw, but still a good deal for fdx. he said the were already scouring the pack rim for 777s to buy. That was back in November. FWTW

MTOGW's
777-200 545K
777-200ER 656K
777-200LR 766K
777F 766.8K
Doesn't tell the whole story and the ratio of MTOGW to revenue payload may vary some but you can see that the MD-11 and MD-10-30 are fairly well covered here by the 200 and 200ER
