Slice,
I just had a very good friend of mine overnite 2 car seats and some other stuff. That was on Friday. It just got delivered TODAY! When he called them, they said "oh, it's on the airplane now". That's when it had just left Mound City, Mo. Then, "customs is holding it up" when it was still in Illinois. It was being shipped to Ontario, Canada. Anyway, had it been shipped true overnite, it would have been in the warehouse Saturday morning in Hamilton!!! They're fighting him tooth and nail about getting his refund.
Just more fantastic customer service from out Big Brown Benevolent employer

If you IPA'ers let the company bring over all the managers with pilots on furlough, I wil puke.
You need to put your money where your mouth is by requiring the furloughing of one manager for every two line pilots furloughed in any agreement to integrate them into the seniority list.
Without that protection I'm sure all the furloughed pilots will want to thank the IPA for the contribution to their unemployed status.

I understand your feelings, but they can now fly as much as 1.7 IPAers do by flying to FAR maximums vs. our contract, so bringing them in anytime would be a win for all.

Maybe I'm a little skeptical, but is this furlough really a function of UPS' profitability. We made a profit of $1.2 billion in six months Oct 09' - Mar 10'. I have worked in aviation for 22 years, and ALL the companies combined have never made $200 million in profit, much less $1.2 billion. I do not believe any other freight or passenger airline made as much as we did in those six months. Maybe Deutsche Post (DHL).
However, let's be the devil's advocate...this furlough is because the company is not making enough money and needs to reduce headcount. The last airline(s) I('ve) worked for usually had two ACPs per pilot base.
Furthermore, belt-tightening should start at the top...less bonuses. Most everywhere I've been laid off or furloughed from before provided a severence package.
Just venting..your normally scheduled program will be right back.

UPS will plead to the court that their union pilots cost too much money to ship all that volume by airplane! They can't afford to not use the trucks.
Maybe if they furlough they can afford to ship it all by air....

I know what your reply will be. Make better financial choices. My house cost less than $100K and I have only one car payment for my family. It's easier to make financial choices with $140K than it is on $60K. I am doing alright except for the fact I am already furloughed.
It IS about money until you don't need money. If it wasn't about money, then why would we go to work in the first place?

Some pilots never get that because some pilots never make "UPS" money and get the house and car paid for, much less the kid's college funded. Priorities change when you have stuff paid off. Debt is a bear.

And you are 150% right - debt is a bear.
