Default UPS hiring restrictions

was looking at an overseas gig with brown as the long term goal. someone told me they thought ups wouldn't hire pilots who had lived out of the country in the past 2 years. this is the first i'd heard of this- can anyone confirm or deny?

That's a FDX restriction due to their mail contract. (Not that there aren't plenty of other obstacles for hiring at UPS)

Looking into my crystal ball I would say UPS will start hiring again in 2012 but what do I know?

Read some of the threads on this site. You should reevaluate your goals.

no restriction at UPS. Naven is right though, this isn't just a job, its an adventure. A lot of guys are a little shocked once they land at the workers paradise

Shocked is a very polite way to put it ...

The original question is a very good question. However, as time progresses, I personally am getting the impression that our current CEO sees the Air Operation as matured. In simple terms, our size and coverage on the air side is appropriate to the direction he intends to take the company.

I don't see major aircraft orders nor large hiring waves in spite of the double digit growth/recovery in air freight. We at UPS were somewhat of a close 2nd to FedEx. Often we would replicate their actions to remain in close comepetition with them. However, in my opinion, and just an opinion, that era is over. Our CEO is transforming UPS from a package delivery household name to a full service organization starting with supply chain solutions, financing, pick-up and delivery over all three modes (land, sea, and air) and then managerial consulting.

To the original author this has bearing in that the air side is where the CEO wants it...it has matured. I hope I am totally wrong but I feel the only movement will be hiring for attrition (not growth) and airplane orders as replacements, not expansion.

Best of Luck,
FF

You give him way to much credit. He is a corporate raider bean counter that is here to gut this place for every dime he can then move on to his next victim. With this clown at the helm UPS's best years are behind them.

you should reconsider your plans. i could never recommend to someone to work for this company. for as long as i've been here, i'm still appalled at the treatment of the pilots.

also, as others have indicated, there is no indication that the airline will grow in the future. this is about as good as it will get. rumors are that the president of the airline has indicated that 2,500 pilots is the goal going forward.

that means no hiring, and sadly, most of the junior pilots will probably not have the opportunity to upgrade for a long time, if ever.

is it really that bad at ups? yes, it's that bad.

stay far away from ups. go to fedex.

You could easily put any airline's name in the above quote. There is always someone complaining about their job. It is "work" after all.
