FDX Carryover?
Is carryover seen as a good thing or bad by most of us at FDX?
I think it seems to depend on wether a person can hold it or not. I am junior, so I cannot hold carryover. I want to keep it, because one day I will be senior and if it fits my schedule I would like to have the freedom to bid carryover? If I get carryover one month maybe I can drop most of the next or whatever works for the homefront. What is the general feel from the rest of us? Is the line between commuters and non- commuters or senior vs. junior?

It is overtime flying at regular pay. It allows the company to make do with fewer pilots. It allows cherry picking of VTO flying before the VTO lines are assigned. Some people think that is good, some don't. You will have to guess what I think.

Applies only if you don't conflict trips or protect min days off.
Again, only applies if you don't conflict trips or protect min days off.
This was negotiated into the contract and we were told it was "a good deal".
The "good" part depends on your seniority and how you apply the first 2 points
I agree with you only because how most apply all of the above

So what you are saying is if only one guy doesn't conflict, doesn't protect min days off, and/or does fly CIC than all of my statements are true. Thanks for backing me up. Regardless, I'll bet more than half the carry over lines result in a blg increase equal to the value of the C/O trip.
No matter how you justify it, bottomline: it is diluting the value of "junior" lines to put more money in the "senior" lines.
PS. The protect min days off thing didn't work for a lot of 4A2b lines.

Has anyone figured out how many additional pilots the company would have needed, pre-4A2b, if there wasn't a carryover capability? And I then wonder how many of them would have been furloughed back when they initiated 4A2b. Carryover is a seniority based issue. If you're senior enough to hold it, than it's a good thing, for you, because, if nothing else, it gives you additional flexibility in creating your quality of life. At the same time, if you're not senior enough to hold it, it's a bad thing, because not only do you not have that additional flexibility, but you have to watch others who do, and that runs against the grain of the vast majority of us, senior or not. You can be sure that the number 2 guy in the entire system is jealous of the carryover trips that the number 1 guy is getting. It's human nature.

Tell me about it, I have only been Jr once in my 9.5 years here. I don't think C/O is going anywhere, I have been known to pad my schedule by 10 to 30 hours every once in a while. But that does not mean that I think it is healthy attitude for the crewforce to live by the motto "Someday I'll be senior enough to fly 120 hours a month".
I wonder how many RJ guys would trade a FDX line number even if it meant being on the street for a year? Anyone think those C/O trips would last long in open time?

In June, in the 727, we have an increase in line averages partly because of very little c/o from May.
We have a lot more c/o from June into July. I think our line averages will scoot down a bit from our June increase.
That's important because SAM was slightly above 68 in June. Carryover may cause the SAM in July to go below 85.
If c/o results in us staying in 4a2b longer, I will say it was bad this summer.

Oh wait, I think I get it - If the carryover wasn't there the really senior crowd that would have to suffer along with everyone else and would be chanting "enough is enough furlough the b@st@rds"
I'm not saying carryover is a bad thing (I like the flexibility it offers) - it is just that, under 4a2b, not everyone is sharing the pain!

Well - If carryover wasn't there prior to 4a2b it wouldn't be there while in 4a2b so what again what was your point?

Prior to 4A2b, all A/C and seats had carryover. During 4A2b, the domestic trip lines were pretty much carryover free. So, many of the domestic trips that had been carryover, were broken up and used for additional line construction.
By the way...I'm for a cap. I want a monthly cap, of some sort, on credit hours and unlimited overtime(150-200%) pay hours.
