Leave of Absence
I've been on a leave of absence from FedEx for over a year. I left as an MD-11 FO and hope to return to that seat. Does anyone know what type of training I will receive when I return? I would like to know if the company will put me through initial again or come up with something shorter.

You have to be gone longer than 2 years to get stuck with Initial. Sounds like you'll do the Long Requal.
Long Requalification Course
If you have missed both segments of CQ training (RGS/CMV1 AND CMV2/CLOE), you will be scheduled in the Long Requalification Course. This curriculum consists of the following: CBT, RGS, LRT1, LRT2, LRT3, RMV, RLOE, OE.
1. CBT. You will need to complete all (both year A and year B) Computer Based Training.
2. RGS. You will be scheduled for the current year’s Recurrent Ground School. You will need to view DVDs from all previous Recurrent Ground Schools that you have missed.
3. LRT1, LRT2, LRT3. Long Requalification Training – Events One through Three are simulator training events.
4. RMV. The RMV (Requalification Maneuvers Validation) is a simulator validation event where proficiency must be demonstrated in all prescribed maneuvers.
5. RLOE. The RLOE (Requalification Line Operational Evaluation) is the end of course check-ride. Prior to the RLOE, crewmembers will complete an electronic test on FOM material.
6. OE. Operating Experience is aircraft operation (e.g., IOE and a Line Check).

I was out 4 months and really only had to do 3 & 3 but got a "mini" checkride instead. It was no big deal. Short answer: It should be shorter than initial.
Then I went out with a regular Capt and everything was OK. You might get, and can request BTW, to fly with a check airman for your first trip out of requal. I think all of this falls under "it depends..."
But you've also missed a few things; HUD, EVS, bounce training, etc. You might get a tailored program or you might get the firehose. There's only recurrent going on now in the schoolhouse (or very little transition) so there should be plenty of sims. Good luck!

All I HAD to do was accomplish "3 & 3" -- it WAS that many moons ago. But I didn't feel comfortable with only 3 bounces and asked the instructor in the pre-brief if we could do alot more.

When I went from the right seat to the left seat (after 9 years as an Md-11 f/0), the put me through the entire LONG course as if I had never seen an MD before (maybe they'd heard about me?). It didn't get painful until the "death-by-loft" portion of training at the end.

I think there's also a new CBT entitled "Rules of the O&B Lot" ---- and you can't jump right to the test either!!
