Default Bad News - UPS

Dividend Stocks – The Dividend Daily Blog Archive Goldman Sachs Raises Target, Estimates for United Parcel Service (UPS)

ups going to have to pay out a big, fat expensive dividend this quarter, and it looks like ups is on track to make another $billion every three months again. gonna have to explain to all the analysts again about what they plan on doing with all the excess cash.

guess the 'belt-tightening' with the furloughs will add to the pot too. just gotta love being a pilot for brown.

Yeah. It does suck to work for a company that makes $3 billion every quarter.

Maybe you could quit?

Long term, you will understand that making money is a good thing and in fact the only thing that will help our brothers regain a job.

Crying about profits makes me laugh and wonder where the sense has flown.

The final mark of success lies in making a profit, the small tribulations we must endure on the way will pale in the final outcome.

Good point. I hear the $3/4 - $1 B quarterly profit bandied about all the time as a reason not to cut costs via furlough. The logic, apparently, is "hey, they made almost a Bil -- why do they need to cut expenses?" The answer, obviously, is: to make more than $1 Bil. How much profit is enough for a publicly traded company? THERE IS NEVER 'ENOUGH'!!! The only reason they won't furlough is if they believe the furlough will actually reduce profit. Thinking they'll keep anyone employed just because they can afford to, not because they need to, is painfully naive. UPS isn't the government after all!

So, I guess the lesson is: convince UPS that putting 54-300 pilots on the street will cut into their profit (in missed service and lost customers) and savings will be more than offset by the loss of revenue. Profit = Revenue - Expenses

If we can't do that, I'll be giving my pocket MBA lessons to whoever will listen I guess -- bottom 54. I would think if Gumby is kicking in hotel room doors, the OT/JA ban must be having at least some effect!

The worst crime against working people is a company which fails to operate at a profit.

You mean it will suck to be furloughed from said company, right?

If they knew it would have come this, they would have done just that and went elsewhere when hiring was going on. The music stopped and hasn't started up again.

Any other bright ideas? I love you "don't like it, quit" folks. I'm sure you mention Dr. Kevorkian to folks with life issues too.

You guys are union, right? You DO realize that it is UPS 101 to scream bloody murder about costs even as they make money hand over fist?

Now there's an idea. Instead of giving a CEO a bonus for driving a company into bankruptcy, maybe we should throw them into jail? I bet then they would have more motivation to actually do something.
