Question UPS Driver to UPS Pilot???

I am a UPS delivery driver in the Seattle, WA area. I joined UPS for the great benefits, but also with HUGE hopes of applying for first officer years down the road and having UPS employment on my application. Thinking it would be a huge strength in the interview. I know UPS is very big on promotion from within, does that give any advantage to becoming a pilot?

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Aviation--commercial, instrument, multi--and am wondering if anyone knows if UPS could lower the total time requirement (PIC multi-turbine 1500hrs). You think UPS would say "Ok here is a driver for 5 years and has 1000 hours SIC turbine, but not 1500 PIC turbine. We can train him". I know its a long shot, but plausible?

I was thinking of using Key Lime Air or Alpine Aviation to log multi-turbine SIC time. Look forward to suggestions! Anyone have UPS chief pilot contact number or mailing address, or email? THANKS!

Welcome bgmann. Off to a good start there, I would try to build turbine time, then PIC turbine time AQAP. You need to have a pilot reference too within UPS. Start working on that now, as that's the biggest hurdle you'll face.

UPS does not flex on their minimums that I'm aware of. I know somebody that had 900 hours PIC turbine with a dozen referrals, and they wouldn't call him in.

not sure what your plans are, but if you plan on going to key lime, you will NOT be able to maintain your job at ups. At key lime, you are gone 17 hours a day and work 6 days(maybe 7) a week.

You'll have better luck with that strategy at FedEx. There are VERY FEW people here that worked as drivers. Regardless, stay on your bosses good side and it could happen, but you will still need competitive avaiation credentials, and I don't see how you could do that too easily while working as a driver.

UPS does not flex of their minimums because they don't have to, especially in today's market.

Bgmann, best of luck in pursuit of your dreams!

BGman,
When we vote this TA down and UPS locks us out and replaces us, they may flex the mins and then you will have a perfect opportunity.

Good Luck

Yeah, try [email protected] Let us know what he says.

With your ratings and your degree, you'd be better off getting your CFI and instructing during your off time to get to 1200 total. Then, get on at Amflight and get 1000 PIC turbine, then get a pilot recommendation at UPS, then you might have a shot at it. That's how it works.

Thanks guys! I know it was a long shot to get them to lower their minimums, but I just thought of how the company is good to their people and like to see their employees better themselves. So I have a lot of hurdles to jump over--which I knew--thanks for the input! I will email him and see what transpires.

My other avenue is Army helicopters, got my flight physical this saturday. Cant' go fixed-wing because I had lasik surgery. Thanks again you all! Will keep the forum posted.

What about Scenic Air, they want 650TT and 50me time. I could build turbine time. I just dont want to be a CFI, trying other options.
