Jan. 19th UPS "D Day"
Looks like we might find something out next Tuesday according to the IPNN. Another long weekend to think about it, or drink about it!

UPS will NOT furlough
Here is why:
1. We failed to meed the MOU requirements to prevent a furlough but we have a program in place that is working. People are signing up every time. It is generating savings for the company.
2. People (junior and senior) are volunteering for their own reasons. I believe lots of senior people are figuring out this is a good deal. If you want to take the time off and have an adventure of a lifetime! Look at all the examples on the B&G.
3. UPS does not get the scheduling flex they are currently getting. They lose that if there is a furlough. Sure they have reserves and the management people to pick up the slack, but that will only go so far if they look to generate the type of savings they want over, was it 2015. Stuffed lines, fatigue calls, sick calls, no JA's, no OT. Some believe this is exactly what UPS wants but I disagree. Over time it will be effective. Since there has never been a furlough at UPS it is a moot point.
4. Bad press. Can you imagine what would happen if UPS is trying to lobby congress to pass this FAA bill and they are laying people off left and right. How many has Fedex laid off? How profitable is UPS. People with out work write letters to their elected reps to express their outrage over this. UPS moves people up to Alaska, then puts them out of work(just one state). I can think of a few people you can write to(cant post the link bc its political)
5. The unknown factor. New EB at the IPA (keep up the great work!!) Crew rest rules. Economy. Work ethic of the workers. There are a few more but these are the big ones.
UPS will keep coming to the pilots till there is a need to hire again or Fedex does something to make them jump. So really this is Fedex's fault for giving UPS the idea (not really theirs, but of course they take credit) So Fedex start hiring, save a UPS pilots job(I am out of sarcastic smilies)
That is just my thoughts on this furlough. They have a program that is working and will continue to work as long as they let it.....and I believe they will let it.

Work Ethic......I think some people might not be that enthusiastic to work after we have busted our hump to come up with this plan ....MOU (as far as I know the IPA did all the work initially to sell the company on it). The number of people that "help the company out" might decrease significantly if there is a furlough.

No kidding. UPS is in the wrong business. They need to move away from shipping and open an investment banking division. Still think the notices will go out on Tuesday. Good luck to all.

Notices go out....makes company look good to their constituents
Notices get canceled later.....makes the union look good to their constituents
Seen that game played out before here
