Looking at the ratings data a little more closely shows some interesting things. The UAL pilot's 401k plan is rated second from the top, but the UAL ground employees 401k plan is rated fifth from the bottom, and the UAL management 401k plan is rated seventh from the bottom.
The FedEx Pilot's 401k is rated twenty-seventh from the top, but the FedEx ground employees plan is rated twenty-fifth from the bottom.
It appears that the biggest single driver in the ratings is the company contribution, UAL puts in 15% without the pilot having to put anything in, while UAL will only match a much smaller portion of the ground employees contribution.

How can this plan be rated so high, when the company only contributes $500? They state in the synopsis of the RSP that it has a profit sharing component. Not true. I believe we lost that years ago, around the time of the first contract.
I think their numbers are suspect. They rated the plan based on publicly available information which is biased by the fact that we are a high income group with high participation. The fund then has high assets against a relatively low number of participants.
