Default FDX manning vs New FAA rest rules

Hi Guys,

Folks over at D think the new FAA rules may require up to 1700 new hires, on top of 12,400 seniority holders.

Any guesses on manning at FDX with new rules and possible implementation of flag vs supplemental dispatch?

Happy Turkey Day,
BG

I heard flag ops would require 200-300 more for the MD-11/10 flying. Not sure how accurate.

Interesting that you are already flag ops and the rest rules will require over 13% greater manning.

Of course you know what we are hearing around here: chirp, chirp, chirp...

It will be interesting. I dont know how you hub turn with a 9-10 hour duty day in the critical period.

After the Colgan accident, it might also be tougher to jumpseat in, then start a trip w/o a legal rest period.

I hope someone told the FAA that it is more difficult/tiring/draining to operate in and operate out than it is to J/S in and operate out.

Maybe, but one of their commutes was quite different than what we do on typical a.m. hubturns. One of their pilots did all-night jumpseats (inbound and outbound on FDX) getting in at 630-ish in the morning with the mishap flight launching after 9pm. We typically get into the hub around midnight for 2a.m.-ish showtimes.

Whether you're jumpseating in or painting your '32 Ford in your Germantown garage until midnight, show up fit for duty. If not, don't fly.

FWIW

Doubt FDX will be going to Flag Ops, as such, any "NEW" Rest Regs applicable to Flag Ops will NOT be applicable at FDX. (I know, I know, it was discussed last year during recurrent, but FDX is still operating under Supplemental).

Still waiting to see the NPRM and if Supplemental Ops will be "left alone" or modified. There was some talk about having "one set of rest rules for the entire industry" but then again, companies made an argument that if there was "one set of rest rules" this would affect the government (read Military Charters/DOD).

I think FDX will wait to see the NPRMs before making any further decisions for Flag/Supplemental Rules. It is a wise decision for the company to make (but maybe not popular for the pilots/pilot hiring).

Hi!

What I read said that they were going to make one rule for all of Part 121, and companies like FedEx are dead set against this idea.

Latest I heard was that while the House proposed bill has an ATP required for Part 121, the Senate does NOT, and they want it taken out of the final bill!

I hope it gets left in!!!

Our less than stellar safety record has been getting some notice in other countries that we operate into.
