New UPS furlough number
#31
It looks to me like furloughs are coming. I gave all I could on RDG and I am not giving anymore. The money I'm making on RDG is **** and I could make just as much delivering pizzas. (not kidding--did it last week). So I am done giving any more. I think its a shame the company has to furlough; let me know when you want me back...........and I guarantee that I will recoup every dollar I lose plus interest over the next 30 years. I am tooooo old to be delivering pizzas as my second job to being an airline pilot. Furlough me.

Exactly MF! I just couldn't believe our own union prez candidate is giving us even worse doom and gloom than the company. I expect scare tactics from the co, but expect help, hope and creative ideas from our union.
FP, they do still have lots of 727's which are slowly getting replaced with 757s and the like. AND they were even more overstaffed than we were! They're just willing to carry more guys on the list. They care about their crews... look at them installing container fire extinguishers in all main cargo holds of their MDs and Airbuses.
Basically what I'm saying is that with the economy appearing to get better and improvements being seen at our closest competitor, I have a hard time believing we're even worse off than we were with MOU 1 earlier this yr. I'm not buying the bs this time. Not to mention that at some point I can make more at Taco Bell than I can as a major airline pilot if I keep giving them more "savings" that they then turn around and give to the CEO.

If we flinch every time they want money then why would they ever stop asking for it? Nobody wants to be on the street but to be continually held hostage takes years off of your life. Keep the contract intact and be smart about the big picture. It just doesn't add up, but what is even more puzzling is that our union presidential candidate is using a number larger than UPS. That seems a bit backwards to me. He should be highlighting to us all of the areas that will create seats: take mgmt flying, sub-contracted routes, credit caps, contract enforcement for week on week off trips, etc.
I'm just curious how many managers have been given possible furlough notice or asked to give back anything?

Good points MF. Consider why many governments refuse to pay ransoms (Somali pirates as an example.) By providing a reward, you encourage the behavior you wish to discourage. An unintended consequence of this MOU will be MORE threats of furlough in the future at UPS!

That's refreshing to hear. The only thing I can recall reading was management losing a 401k match and then UPS telling the media no such reductions had been imposed upon their hourly employees. Kind of a disingenuous statement as no 401k match is offered to hourly employees!

I agree, the big picture!! Can't win a war without a few losses but if you can not accept losses, the war will never be won.
Also, those that took RDG and JS are picking up open time when able to recoup and prepare for future hardships...
PS. Bottom 100 ready for what ever...!
