Naven, anyone who did VLOA or JS or RDG is on a reduced guarantee just like your FDX buds. My whole point was we still have the furlough axe hanging by a thread over our heads whereas they seemingly do not.

Week on Week off!!!!!!!!! 2006 Contract--My watch says 2009.
We gave a lot to get this in the contract. Estimates are 200 jobs cost via computer generated lines not IAW contract language. It is not all about money, but QOL also.

Don't they still have a bunch of 727s though?

Well, we also did not meet the "goals". Now, if we met the goals and they started looking for more, I'd be telling them to shove it....

V2,
V2,
I completely agree with you. It doesn't make sense that the union quotes higher numbers than the company. Loads seem to be up and the economy is better than when we had MOU 1. Why would they put people on the street prior to a recovery with the possibility of losing market share?
If they intend to furlough then why would they be asking for MOU sign ups for 10-01? That bid period goes until early Feb and makes no sense to extend mou signups until then if pink slips go out in January.
If we flinch every time they want money then why would they ever stop asking for it? Nobody wants to be on the street but to be continually held hostage takes years off of your life. Keep the contract intact and be smart about the big picture. It just doesn't add up, but what is even more puzzling is that our union presidential candidate is using a number larger than UPS. That seems a bit backwards to me. He should be highlighting to us all of the areas that will create seats: take mgmt flying, sub-contracted routes, credit caps, contract enforcement for week on week off trips, etc.

Fire away.

It looks to me like furloughs are coming. I gave all I could on RDG and I am not giving anymore. The money I'm making on RDG is **** and I could make just as much delivering pizzas. (not kidding--did it last week). So I am done giving any more. I think its a shame the company has to furlough; let me know when you want me back...........and I guarantee that I will recoup every dollar I lose plus interest over the next 30 years. I am tooooo old to be delivering pizzas as my second job to being an airline pilot. Furlough me.

Exactly MF! I just couldn't believe our own union prez candidate is giving us even worse doom and gloom than the company. I expect scare tactics from the co, but expect help, hope and creative ideas from our union.

FP, they do still have lots of 727's which are slowly getting replaced with 757s and the like. AND they were even more overstaffed than we were! They're just willing to carry more guys on the list. They care about their crews... look at them installing container fire extinguishers in all main cargo holds of their MDs and Airbuses.

Basically what I'm saying is that with the economy appearing to get better and improvements being seen at our closest competitor, I have a hard time believing we're even worse off than we were with MOU 1 earlier this yr. I'm not buying the bs this time. Not to mention that at some point I can make more at Taco Bell than I can as a major airline pilot if I keep giving them more "savings" that they then turn around and give to the CEO.

Ask any of your buds at FedEx about their reduced guarantee and how they feel about that. Their reduced pay is mandatory and across the board. Ours is voluntary.
That part of our contract sucks. Especially since we have no exit clause. It is all smoke and mirrors to make us appear overstaffed. Our MEC just put out an interesting table showing how by reducing the number of reserve line holders, they can dilute the regular line guarantee down to where they are now. This is an attempt to show the arbitrator how there isn't enough flying. In one airframe they have cut the number of reserve lines in half while adding 10% more regular lines compared to a year ago! Reserve utilization is thru the roof and they are calling guys for draft every night b/c they have run out of reserve.
Good luck guys. The devil is always in the details.

your experience under mandatory give backs and putting the power in the hands of the company are great examples for IPA guys to watch out for in the future. The IPA gave back 25 million and UPS mgt gave themselves a 650 increase in bonuses ..... mmmm
