You say above that you have an "expectation that your coworkers will help you out in a time of need..." yet you don't see that as an entitlement mentality? You feel "entitled" to help. There is no such "right to assistance". It's NOT your coworkers' responsibility or mandate to provide assistance. Thus, your "expectation" is misguided, in my opinion.

I've copied 757upspilot's definition of a union below and agree with it.

<<The unions job is to protect the union member by negotiating a contract that protects the union member. This is why areas of scope, termination protection, scheduling and the other areas that drive staffing are negotiated. We cannot make a job where one doesn't exist nor keep one that is no longer required. The IPA tried and has so far prevented a layoff of its members via a voluntary MOU. I don't believe we will be able to meet an increased demand from the company and I think they will come to us with an increased demand, regardless of who is sitting in the EB seats. I don't what to see anyone on the street but, the company controls this the IPA doesn't.>>

Why does a Captain get paid more than an F/O when both are required to make the airplane move? Why does a 10 year F/O get paid more than a 2 year F/O? Maybe MOU5 can take care of that problem. Wake up America.
Commando, Avg, 757 and others like you, go back to the bar and grill and dredge up some more Bull$hit from three years ago and justify why it is your not going to save jobs by voting for Scott but rather keep the boat, the four cars, the beautiful house on the hill and the beach bungalow! Feel free to email me your name and number so that we can have a intelligent face to face conversation!

And you could have picked up 65 hours of opentime sometime during the 2 and a half years of the MOU and not been out a penny.

UPS may furlough anyway in April but lets not lose sight of who these guys are going to vote for. A vote for BT is a vote for a certain furlough.

If you are writing about the training issue brought up by RT. It was clarified by WL and that clarification was confirmed by CP who was an EB member at the time. In my view it cleared that issue from SF's table and allows him to move forward with speaking about what he will do if elected.
I think WL's keeping the politics out of the training center has been well done and keeping the IPA instructors has been good for the pilot group and is an important part of what a union should do.

Shaggy, your responses make people not want to participate. Because you and Freightpupppy come across like you are owned. The facts are we have a seniority based job. The Junior get chopped if the Management wants. And I was Junior forever in the 90's. And if UPS had to furlough, I accepted it and would have moved on until called back. Not whined about it. I knew the rules when I started flying, like everyone. Please show me ONE airline that has changed a Contract to save the bottom guys. It hasn't happen and shouldn't. If one did, management would threaten a furlough all the time for consessions. Hopefully there wont be a furlough, but if there is one. Take it standing, instead of blaming the Union and Senior folks.

Picking up a open time trip to cover some of my RDG is exactly what I did. For my efforts I was called an open time ***** by someone who was upset that I picked up a trip .... Nice.

Participate in the MOU and get hammered for not participating enough or exactly the way and the amount someone thinks you should volunteer. Somehow not a surprise.

If UPS comes for more money or the furlough is back on, offer to freeze the A-Fund until 2012. That would save the required money, and get rid of some of near- dead weight at the top of the list. I bet that would pass easily if sent out to the membership for a vote. Worked here.....
