MD-11 Call for Draft MEM
Ladies, Gentlemen, et al;
For the first time since I've been in the MD-11/10 (MEM), I was called for draft, ARPT STBY TODAY. Since I live 300 miles away, it was easy to say no. For the record, I would have probably said no anyways, since draft assignments are not commensurate with the current company's position regarding pilot manning.
Things that make you say hummmmm....

HOLD THE LINE BOYS.....if this is true then we could be on verge of exiting 4.A.2.b since peak is approaching. Now is the time to pass up a few extra bucks for the betterment of the whole pilot group, junior and senior alike!
THANK YOU RICKY for sharing and doing the right thing. Cheers!

It isn't so much as it is a lack of pilots, it is simply a lack of reserves. Fedex has decided that they weren't utilizing the reserves enough, so they cut reserve manning by half in many seats (MD-11 for sure). If they have a fairly large disruption or alot of sick calls, they can't fill seats unless they draft. I guess they figure that a few draft calls are cheaper than having extra reserve pilots.
By lowering the reserve manning, they can dillute or lines even more. In the MD-11 (Memphis FO), we have anywhere from 50-70 fewer reserves. These guys are now assigned line flying. This helps the company build lower value lines....

I got a draft call the other night. I had already had a beer with dinner and before I could get the "Sorry I..." -Click-. The MF'er hung up on me! I will never extend to duty limits or do any extra until this BS attitude towards us ceases.

The problem we are going to run into is the skeds folks have there "go to guys." These work horses are going to help them out, because they know the crew skeds guys will call them back for good deal trips in return later down the road.
Personally, I'd like to see all of that go away until they fix 4a2b, but it just won't happen until some of the Sempre Me guys get their phones disconnected
