ALPA will be responsible for pilot's outsourcing
Read that title again - sound whacked?
One of our most vocal pilots on this forum - Bob Lavender - has now moved on to the next phase of independent operations: Press Releases. Go ahead and read it at:

(Yes, Bob, I'm giving you free publicity here...)
But we need to remember; our best protection from outsourcing is not going to come from protectionist public law, but from a good, tightly written contract. The way we'll get that contract is through a unified pilot force -- all of us supporting our negotiators -- not acting as independent operators.
Also, the whole idea that "Thousands of pilot jobs in this country will soon be outsourced to foreign airlines" (the opening line of the press release) doesn't make sense. I believe the concern is that pilots will fly for their last two to five years for a foreign airline, since they can’t fly as a pilot for a US company past age 60. The JOB would not be outsourced! The job would be filled by a pilot from the seniority list of the American-owned airline. It's the foreign airline cockpit job that would be outsourced. It would be outsourced to an American.
According to American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language:
Outsourcing is a transitive verb that means: “To send out (work, for example) to an outside provider or manufacturer in order to cut costs.”
And also, outsourcing when used as a noun means “The procuring of services or products, such as the parts used in manufacturing a motor vehicle, from an outside supplier or manufacturer in order to cut costs.”
“Outsourcing American Jobs” is a slogan that is used only to get attention. Saying that ALPA supports outsourcing American jobs is nothing close to the truth. I urge you to not fall into a trap of making up political lies to get your point across.
Yes, we do need to protect our jobs from being outsourced. I don’t want to compete with a Chinese pilot making 1/8th of my pay to fly the FedEx freight. That’s outsourcing. Support ALPA, support your negotiators, and give some money every month to the ALPA PAC, and let your elected officials know how you feel. Those are the best things you can do to keep your job from being taken by a foreign pilot. Age 60 has nothing to do with outsourcing American jobs.
