FedEx: Southwest bans FedEx nonrevs
#13
Before this turns into a SWA bash...take a deep breath.
I agree it seems harsh that they pulled the agreement for all employees because of the actions of some. We had that FCIF a few days ago regarding this issue and obviously SWA didn't like the way FedEx was handling it, as referenced in the FCIF. I hope and assume we will get this back once the problems are addressed.
By FedEx coming back and taking away the shipping discount, would be like acting like children, in my opinion. All SWA employees help out other responsible FedEx employees, whether it is with non-rev travel or jumpseats. Let the companies work this out. If the ban on FedEx is long term, then perhaps the discount should be withdrawn as that is our way to "pay" back for the non rev passes. Again, let the people involved get this worked out.
For what is worth, they are still allowing jumpseaters.

It's a post from the link provided. Just wondered.
As mentioned in the news coverage, he exposed himself to a female passenger, and also took off all his clothes before being restrained. The OAK-LAS flight turned around and went back to OAK.

I wonder what happened??? It seems irrational to ban a company when you have a couple of A-holes that obviously should be counseled individually. Anyway, these passes are junk. I hope we take away their shipping discount....
I seriously hope we stop buying tickets on these guys. They are a total pain and certainly don't help the deviation bank.

I agree, the company overreacted and hopefully they fix this soon.
But let's look at the facts. A FEDEX employee non-revving, assaulted a passenger, stripped naked, forced the aircraft to declare an emergency and divert back to the field, and caused tons of bad press. This cost the company lots of money and bad press.

I've got friends at WN, and apparently the naked passenger was just the straw that broke the camel's back. There have also been issues of FedEx non-revs arguing with gate agents after being bumped, demanding compensation, and just generally acting like idiots. Considering this, I not only don't blame management at both companies for this suspension, I applaud it. It's written in multiple places what behavior is expected of employees when they travel non-rev, and apparently there are problems with people complying with those requirements. We can still use them to deviate if we need to, and as stated earlier, our jumpseat agreements are still good. Hopefully, if at some point standby privileges are reinstated, the company will get smart and begin limiting perks like standby travel to air-ops employees only. No more hubbites, truck drivers, couriers, call center employees, etc.

You are correct, sir, in the direction you were heading, hard to hire the masses to throw boxes at less-than-stellar wages and expect them to maintain all the proper decorum of airline civility, or what's left of it. Ahhh, longing for the good old days of real domestic first class when the only people there could afford it (and thus dressed for it) and employees (who knew enough to be dressed for it)...
