I must be a greedy ba$tard. Last month I had to put a new 15k roof on the house and had to work extra. The month before that I put 8k worth of braces in the kids mouths. The month before that the dog got hit by a car and I had to pay a 7k vet bill. Does this make me a greedy ba$tard? I don't think so. I'm just trying to play the cards I'm being dealt.

So take your socialistic attitude somewhere else. I don't care what "other" airlines do and how they do it. I only care about my family and my job, that's it. Call me greedy if you must, but don't tell me I can't work to cover my expenses.

OMG. I rest my case.

Glad to see their is plenty of open time in your seat. Not in mine. Some of us have to pay for the roof and the dog the old fashioned way.

What about looking at a CAP from a safety perspective? We (ALPA) continually point out disputed pairings, crappy lines etc. and complain about our fatiguing lifestyle. Then we have a handful or more of pilots who on a routine basis make themselves schedules that have 2,3 or 4 days off in a MONTH! I do not think that is fair to the pilots they fly with and creates a easy counter by the Company when we try to argue Fatigue.

We need either a CAP on CH or an absolute min days off. Contract is X days off for monthly schedules but you cant go lower than X-Y operationally. If a guy wants to fly a bunch have at it, but I am sick of seeing screens full of nothing but green and blue. What you can legally fit (FAR) should not be the only restriction on a schedule.

And which way is that? Old fashioned to me is going to work to get things done. You guys make it sound like working for FDX is like joining a cult or something. It's a job. That's it.

At the expense of being compared to the The One, I am saving now for when I need a new roof, I have some sort of insurance on many of my animals (4 equines, 4 cats, a rabbit and a dog), my 5 yr old daughter has 2 of her adult teeth coming in and I'm already saving for braces now too. When the private school tuition was due, I didn't have to fly an extra 35CHs to cover it, it was already in the bank. I'm also saving for her college so that in Jul and Aug prior to each of her college years I won't have to work 120CHs each month to pay for it! I normally bid for days off, not Max BLG and have a few hundred hours in my MU bank.

Nothing like being ready for a rainy day (kind of a "roof" pun intended!)

Just sayin!

Sounds like Z Mann can get a part time jobs shoveling poop at your place and leave some extra hours for the rest of the crew force.

Exactly my point, just because you manage your household one way and mine another, doesn't mean that I do it wrong. Also, comparing widebody capt's savings to widebody f/o's savings is a pretty poor comparison. Glad you are able to save money.

Also, it's makeup time. I gave that time up due to a variety of reasons. When I choose to makeup those hours is my decision, not yours or the other 4700 guys here.

I had 2 go through Braces as well, but do you not have dental insurance or do you have 4 kids in braces at the same time? Seems like a high number for out of pocket expenses for 1 month.

The real point is we all have expenses, the ability to fly as much as you like might be ok of it were a level playing field. It is FAR from that, whether you want to debate make up bank, Carry over or how the Company is currently creating have a have not pilots in the monthly schedules. I had some big bills last month and there is NO open time and my BLG was about 3K short of what it should be, tough luck on me.

You don't even need an excuse like bills or taking care of your family. The guy who wants to fly a ton to pay for his toys or insert whatever has just as much right to do it as you. What we need to ensure is that we look at things from a "normal" month point of view. Every FDX pilot should be guaranteed a level of income, that baring any catastrophe should be able to easily support his way of life. Do we need a way for guys that need and extra 30K in one or two months find a way to do it?

Seems like there could be a better balance between NO limit and a CAP. CAP systems help you upgrade faster and help maintain level staffing numbers, the problem is they also have more pilots than might be needed in the event of a downturn. That is why I am for a scheduling cap of some sort. The hours need to be in my BLG, that is what I would like to see moving up, not my hawking of open time to use bank time, that may or may not have been actual time I "lost".
