What is the consensus among the cargo community? Are these in your eyes good, bad, or are you indifferent to them? Should the FAA be getting slammed right now for working too fast to add these? I am trying to get the pilots opinions on these systems for a term paper. Thanks!

In between flying jobs (OK ... unemployed after my Legacy carrier went broke), I was employed as a GPS Flight Test Engineer. GPS is far superior to all previous navigation sources (the military version even more so). I'm glad we have it, the combined GPS/INS position information is a remarkable improvement in aviation.
For those that don't know, much of the EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE GPS system cost was justified by the cost savings of "standing down" the current aging (expensive maintenance) VOR, TACAN, NDB, ILS, OMEGA systems ...

I agree that turning off the non critical VORs (not sure what qualifies as a critical VOR though) will incur a significant savings. This comes in response to the following article FAA Criticized Over RNAV/RNP Strategy | AVIATION WEEK
Thanks for the input...lets get some more.

I understand why you would field questions here; however, I really don't think it is going to be of much use. You aren't going to have any demographic information about your sources.
Go to the nearest crew layover hotel, meet the crew in the bar, and ask them nicely to fill out a simple survey.
