FDX block over 8 and 10 pay
#12
I will try to explain one area of contention between the company and us on the 8-10 block hour capture pay. Prior to the current contract we had trip guarantee on block over 10. We still have it. You also had trip guarantee on any hard time trips such as the Stansted turns. Those would pay for all block time flown due to the short time away from base.
What the current contract did was get us pay for the block hours actually flown between 8 and 10. You have to fly it to get it. It is not in your trip guarantee. When we flew a longer trip all of our longer legs were getting washed out by trip rig. You could have an 8 day trip with a couple of 9:30 legs on them and a couple of 24+ hour layovers and the trip would wash out to approx. 6 hours per day.
Here is an example of a trip with the area of contention. Let's say you have a trip with one long 10:30 block leg on it. Keeping all other variables constant let's say the trip pays 50 hours. After you fly the trip your pay should reflect 52 hours for the 8-10 capture on the one long leg.
Now lets say you have favorable winds, short vectors, etc. and you block in on that long leg 10 minutes early at 10:20. When you review your pay after the trip closes you will only see 1:50 pay for the capture between 8 and 10. The company has docked you 10 minutes of pay for arriving early! Remember this............the :30 pay over 10 block hours was in your trip guarantee. In other words the original 50 hours of pay for the trip included the :30 over 10. If you call in sick you still get that pay because it's guaranteed. Now you fly the trip and earn the pay between 8 and 10 and it shoud be added to your pay in it's entirety. It is my understanding that the union was looking into this over a year ago. I haven't heard anything more on it. Maybe it's time to ask for an update.
