Default Training and required rest...

I'm in the process of searching the contract for the specifics but thought I would throw this out on the board and see if I can get the answer faster...

I have training next month and, being a commuter, trying to get training as close to a trip as possible. So....

If I have a sim, event how much time is required to be off BEFORE starting duty for an international trip???

And vice versa...how much time is required off AFTER a trip before showing for a sim events.

Thanks for any info in advance.

PT!

Need to waive INTL Duty Free buffer if going for training 12 hours after the trip.

12.D.1.d. International Duty Free Buffer

i. A pilot shall be relieved of all duty for at least 24 consecutive hours prior to the start of an international trip scheduled to exceed 120 consecutive hours. A pilot may, however, be on reserve (during which time he performed no flying or standby duty) within 24 hours of the showtime for an international trip scheduled to exceed 120 consecutive hours.

ii. A pilot shall be relieved of all duty and reserve availability for at least 48 consecutive hours at the conclusion of an international trip that exceeds 120 hours TAFB, except for trips scheduled in accordance with Section 12.D.1.c.i. If the 48 hour buffer conflicts with an R-24 pilot's notification window, he shall be responsible for reserve assignments placed in VIPS at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled showtime of the assignment (as described in Section 25.M.3.a.iii.(b)).

iii. A pilot may waive this international buffer (i.e., Section 12.D.1.d.i. or D.1.d.ii.). A pilot is deemed to have waived any conflict with the international buffer resulting from a bid line adjustment, reassignment trip, or a volunteer or draft assignment.

And,

11.E.11 Prior to and upon completion of ground school or simulator training, a pilot shall receive a minimum of 12 hours off. This buffer may be reduced operationally, by mutual agreement of the pilot and the duty officer.

However, you can't waive the buffer if it conflicts with vacation, is the way I read it.

Not entirely true. Even if you waive the buffers, you can still get bit on the backside of a trip. It's 12 hours OR double the block hours (for long international legs). I lost a nice trip this year because I budgeted for 15 hours after a CGN-MEM leg instead of the mandatory 18 hours (2X9hrs).

That is a nice little nugget of information for me in regards to this question because I operate MEM-NRT one the first day and then operate KIX-MEM on the last day of my trip. Thanks!

FAR 121.485 specifies twice the block hours free of duty for trips in which at least one leg is scheduled for more than twelve hours block time. After returning to home domicile, you can't legally do anything for the company, including training or a desk job, until you have had the required time free of duty. However, if the required time free of duty is more than seven days, (168 hours, meaning that you exceeded 84 flight hours since your last rest at home domicile) then the rest exceeding seven days may be given any time before your next flight duty.
