As a side note in regards to the Harvey Watt LTD supplemental insurance: It only covers us to Age 60; it didn't change with the Age 65 law change. If you have a 1-year wait, you should cnx it by age 59 so you don't waste your money (2-year wait by age 58).

I'm in a similar (only different) situation. I had to call in sick for a long trip in July and didn't have the sick bank to cover it entirely. They approved use of my DSA so I didn't lose any pay. I was immediately place in NOQ status for lack of medical qualification. Now I bid pay only, and have been milking my DSA and vacation banks to get me to the end of the year. As long as you maintain 36 hours a month by drawing from a bank (sick/DSA/vacation), you are considered active. This gets me to the end of the year and then I will have vacation hours to get me through Jan/Feb/Mar. I would actually make quite a bit more going on disability, but it is my understanding your family loses their medical coverage after 90 days with COBRA available to it for mucho dinero. Anyone else deal with this and crunch numbers? I may actually make enough more on LTD to cover the Cobra payments but I don't have any firm numbers.
If SW is down for medical, why isn't he in NOQ status? I wasn't offered the option and don't know if it is even available. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you're getting at with your highlighted statement, but if what you're saying is that once on long term disability, you lose your family's medical coverage, you are incorrect. I've been on LTD for just over 2 years and my wife and I are still on the FedEx insurance. However, we write a separate check out to FedEx each month to cover the insurance. I don't know how much the check is for, because my wife is the check-writer in the family, but I believe it's less than $160 a month. Hope this helps.

JJ is right. I was on disability for a little over a year, and once you do not have a paycheck to take your insurance payment from, you are required to send in your payment. It is the same amount that you normally pay through payroll deduction.

That actually helps me a lot. I got a letter from Mike in ANC explaining all I needed to do and it seemed to say that my family coverage would stop after 90 days. The last time I had to do the Cobra deal it was close to $750 a month, so I was under the impression I would be writing a large check each month. I think I have actually hurt myself (money wise) by living on 40 hours a month instead of using all my banks and going on disability. I will break out the calculator tonight and figure out which course is going to be the most beneficial...but as usual, I think I already screwed up.

I was only sick 2 days into a 12 day trip when they switched my status from sick to NOQ. Maybe it has something to do with Doc Kendall getting involved??

Baron,
I hope you're wrong again (about NOQ after talking with Dr. Kendall's group) because it was my impression that they were a go-between between you and the FAA, not you and the Company. As well, I don't think that they will even have a conversation with the Company about you or your situation. Could be wrong about this, but I hope not.
And if I've saved you some bucks, the next time you're in Bradley, let me know and I'll pick you up and allow you to buy me a Diet Coke.
