Cut him a little slack? Are you kidding?! They have NO EXCUSE.
I'll cut a new FO slack, but not an experienced FO and certainly not any captain. They both have been flying the line long enough to be aware of disputed pairings and not bid them.
If they want someone to talk with in flight and someone to eat and drink with on layover, they can re-bid MEM.

I'll call a new pilot and explain what a DP is, why we dispute them and how flying a DP adversely impacts both him and all of us. I will be compassionate and attempt to be educational. And I'll give them a break. These two bozos already know all that; they don't need to be educated, they need to be shunned and ignored. Maybe then word would get out that flying DPs are not just an "Oops, I made a mistake..." and more like "Hey look at me screw the rest of you so I can profit at your expense..."
We make it so simple to avoid flying a DP, even a caveman can do it. The union pushes the info out in a SIG letter each month and my local reps send out their own messages with the same information and I assume your reps do the same. Finally, though not as widely used I suspect, each of us can pull the same information from the union web site.
I'm not saying I'm perfect, I just don't make mistakes on issues of importance.

The amount of open time in ANC is very minimal and this DP sat there for DAYS. A long trip that sits there for a days is very rare. I am finding it hard to believe these BZ's hadn't seen this open trip earlier before just jumping in and picking it up.

Too convienient to have just "screwed up," not a good enough excuse anymore. I don't exactly think they should be shunned liked a leper at a bar be que but it is high time for them to do the right thing and realize they are too sick to do the trip...half way into the trip would work too!!
