30 from bottom,

The reserves are undermanned. If you look at last years reserve lines, you will probably see that they have significantly cut them down. In the MEM MD FO, we have around half of the reserve lines we used to have.

When they cut the amount of reserves, the company can dilute our BLG even more. In my seat, they added around 50-60 people as line holders. 50 (more line holders) X 60 (our "new BLG") = 3000 hours. We have around 700 MEM MD-11 FOs. Just by reducing reserve lines by 50 (and making them line holders), that alone cut our BLG by about 4 hours per month.

These are rough numbers, and actually it is probably worse. I didn't look at how many FOs were pay only.

The company believes (and they are correct) that they can man most open trips with reserves. Most trips are picked up every morning and the few left will be assigned to reserves. They will draft occasionally, but a little time and a half is a pennies to the savings from 4A2B.

Isn't it kind of late in the season for the salmonila to be running?

The silver version of salmon-ella is just a bit late this year...will probably be affecting crews for the next month or so. Wash your hands so you don't get it!

Ahh eye see.

And, I know what you mean about the handwashing...It's so distracting to walk around with that salmon-Ella smell on your fingers.

It is kind of like being a little bit pregnant.
Not according to our NC. They said that Flag Ops will actually be a net negative in required bodies after running the numbers so its delay is not necessarily a bad thing.

Sounds like ALPA fuzzy math to me. How can it require fewer bodies when it has more restrictive duty parameters? If it was a great deal for the company it would be implemented tomorrow. Maybe there is some "hidden money" out there for us.

I got that a little wrong before.

NC said theylooked at Flag Ops and don't see much of a bump in pilot manning. Company predicts only 30 add'l pilots int'l and no add'l domestic (very few trips go over 30 in 7 currently)
