How often does FedEx use a FedEx plane to actually move a non-operating flight crew into or out of position? I know that UPS used to do that all the time, but have lost track of that phenomenon, and assume that they're like the rest of the industry now, in that they buy tickets for crewmembers.

They will build pairings with 48+ hour layovers just to avoid commercial tickets. I saw a 66 hour layover in the middle of jumpseat legs just the other day !

very, very little
bumping an ojs is very rare. 1) "bumping" a j/s for business or staging must be done 3 business days prior. Since ojs can't book until 24 hrs prior, you would already be inside the window. However, there are OE and PE (operational emergency and Personal Emergency (death in family and urgent need to travel)) OE can take the form of MX needing to travel to fix a jet (engine change) or even more remote company moving a crew into position for a flight.
Your chance of getting bumped from a PE or OE is very remote. Your chance of not making the flight a higher from the a/c being downed for mx and the inbound airplane picking up the freight already has j/s, and there's not enough seats for both flights.
I find that ojs get a bad reputation from internal (FDX) j/s because ojs will reserve a flt 24 hours in advance as a "back-up" to their px j/s option. Their px j/s option works out, yet they do not cxl FDX j/s, which blocks a fdx j/s from confirming the flt the day of. Yet at show time, there's no ojs and they lose their fdx priviledge for 1 DAY!!! (Big deal) While the fdx guy misses j/s, yet a/c takes off with an empty seat. Then the animosity sets in.
ojs beware....when you realize you don't need the fdx j/s, cxl asap.
