So I know an offline type can't get "confirmed" more than 24 hours out, but can one be put on the "standby" list more than 24?

Being able to get on standby earlier would be nice...

I'm not aware of any status available to an OJS, +24h from scheduled block-out. JS Admin is pretty strict on the 1 to 24 hour out reservation requirement.

His original post was at 2117 on the 23rd...asking about a jumpseat on the 24th. It's highly likely he was inside 24 when he got put on stby and informed that Captain's permission would be required.

From what I understand, depending on the configuration of the MD, the company advises OJS' that they require Captain's permission to ride, so you get put on STBY until he gives his ok. I believe it is the a/c with bunks since all jumpseats are in the flight deck. Two can list and the the third goes on stby until the Captain says, "ok I'll deal with the sardine can below 18K, then we can put the bunk out". This in no way changes the 24 hour rule. It seems to apply more to him allowing the company to put another person on, ie. giving them permission.

Anytime the a/c is a crew rest type (only bunks in the back) ALL jumpseaters (including FedEx crewmembers) are required to get Captains Permission to ride. You will be listed as STBY until the Capt either emails j/s admin or calls them. Typically j/s admin will only allow 2 reservations in the cockpit (some a/c dont have the 3rd seat)

My issue is reciprocity. If FDX crewmembers get the same access as we are giving a non-FDX crewmember by announcing our CP jumpseat procedure, then fine. I'm not trying to screw somebody, I just want to protect myself from being screwed by others.

You, as a FedEx crewmember, can reserve a jumpseat 14 days in advance in whatever status you so desire. If it is a crew rest a/c it will be a STBY reservation until you get Captains Permission. You can get CP at any time. Offline crew can only do this 24 hours in advance.

UPS definitely has more gentlewomen than FDX...but that is another thread.

FWIW, not that anybody wants to ride our system (I don't for example ), but a non-UPS type can reserve a seat on UPS several days out. The difference is UPS crew scheduling can (and often does) bump even UPS pilots to move crews, while I've never seen Fed Ex do so.

Ah the joys of commuting....
