Fedex reserve/vacation help
Vaca gurus - I'm just trying to confirm a couple of things:
I have 8 days of vacation in Aug.
Since MD-11 R-days are worth 3:56 in Aug, 8 days of vacation(48 hours+the extra 6 you can go over) should be worth 13.7 R-days. I'm sure they round down, so that means I can knock out 13 days (or "extend" my vacation by 5 days) - correct?
Does that mean I will get rid of 13 R-days even if some don't actually touch the vacation days and/or the "extended" portion including the buffers?
I'm just trying to figure out if I've done everything correctly before the conflict window closes this weekend. I requested to extend and use max vacation (54 hours) and knock out max days.
Thanks.

No that is not how it works. The most that you can "expand" it to is 11. The way it works is that you only get charged what a R-day is worth for each day that you take but can expand your vacation up to 3 days with a reserve line.

However, "expanding" a vacation is not an option for a reserve lineholder. If you click on expand, it tells you as much.
"Extend" is for reserves and when I click on that, it states I can extend up to 5 days (which I'm guessing is due to the earlier math: 54 vaca hours divided by 3:56=13.7).
So, I think I'll see if there are a few more opinions out there. Thanks though.

And the main question: Will this extended vacation knock out R-days it doesn't actually touch if there aren't 13 R-days under the actual vacation "footprint".
Thanks.

I have done this MANY times (bid Reserve during vacation months). Here's my reasonably certain opinion ...
After you "extend" your vacation, your R line will be totally rebuilt around vacation days, perhaps (probably?) having none of the original R days on the R line.
So ... you extend your 8 days to 13 days (in a 4 week bid month you'll owe them 14 days, so you owe them only 1 R days). I've had good luck asking "Futures" for the R days I desired.
Good luck ...

I'm arriving at that conclusion as well. If I've selected "extend" and told them which R-days to keep/remove, have I jumped through all the hoops I need to?

Also, be sure to check out the R-day reconstruction formula. Though it may not apply to you, I have had R-days "rebuilt" on my line in the past.

Adler,
if you extend your vacation 5 days, you will work 1 day of reserve. On 4 week bid month:
14 - vacation days taken = days that you will sit reserve
Assuming you don't want to work next month, extend your vacation 5 days.
No opinion, this is how it works.. Enjoy your time off.

Mario,
You don't need to worry about conflicts when taking vacation on a reserve month. Mark is right, he will work 1 day if he extends his vacation 5 days. He will have the opportunity to reconstruct his r line, but since he is working 1 day, just ask specific days you want to work.
I have done this many times. Trust me.

No, I don't believe so. The situation is similar to removing trips with vacation; that is, only the trips in actual conflict will be removed.
Also, be sure to check out the R-day reconstruction formula. Though it may not apply to you, I have had R-days "rebuilt" on my line in the past.

In the end, number of V days (as awarded or extended) - # of R days will equal the # of days you will stand. Bank will be reduced by days removed * r day value.
ALWAYS try and leave any remaing R days AFTER vacation so that you can be leveled for the hours and knock em out it will help the Compnay's "manning" issue.
