Actually I have become a nuance expert lately. One part of his statement is present tense one part is past tense. Therefore nuance wise, unless there is a star trek time continuance plot here, it is possible to not like unions in the present, but like what they have done in the past.
A social science way to look at it is; I didn't like that mussolini guy but hey the trains ran on time.

Gunter still not happy.
Must you try to take over a brown thread? What have I stopped? What action have I ever taken that would cost us a benefit? Don't make baseless accusations on an anonymous web board unless you can back it up. Awaiting any specifics.

Our plan could not be further from the ALPA plan, at least when I was there. In that plan you were billed quarterly for what the plan had sent out. Back then, you would get a statement showing who was collecting, and for some reason, it seemed to me as a regional pilot that everyone getting "sick" was at Eastern, Pan Am, or Braniff.
In our plan, you put money up front (escrow) and pay a smaller amount with each check. The plan lives off of that and the escrow accounts intrest and at the end of the year the members get a rebate check for what is left over.
Definitely not the cut an paste you seem to be accusing us of

So we have guys giving up pay and sick leave because the union says it has to be done. Our union said that if we were one penny short 300 guys WOULD be furloughed--all or nothing. Well, the truth was that they did not need every penny and the evidence is that we were 50 million short and we're all still here. We have plenty of folks working on half pay right now, that could be on full pay with no furloughs.
Something doesn't add up with our MOU. The fact that I am unable to articulate exactly what that is does not alleviate the mistrust I have. Remember what an awesome job the UAW did for its members? Their contract was so strong that workers were still paid nearly their full paychecks when they were no longer needed in the factory. That was ridiculous.

I find it interesting that the IPA stressed repeatedly that the MOU was an all or nothing deal. But we came up short, by how much nobody is saying, and UPS took our money. It was as if the IPA EB was doing the dirty work for the company. I don't like unions, but I am thankful for what they've done.
