Honest question here:

Isn't it a bit hypocritical for y'all to be all pro-ALPA, yet totally against some language that will help your fellow employees in getting proper union representation? I'm not trying to start a war here. I'm really trying to understand this issue.

If the drivers or mechanics or package maulers want to join a union I am all for it. There are rules follow them, we did.

If the rules change the only thing that will happen is FEDEX Ground and Express will merge. A lot of drivers will lose their jobs. Could be express drivers could be ground drivers, does not effect me. I personally think it will make FEDEX a stronger company. What I detest is congress changing the rules to suit the highest bidder. As an American it angers me. It angers me when republicans do it and it angers me when democrats do it.

You guys want a "fair fight". Your solution is to tie the hands of both fighters. Is that how America will compete for jobs in the global economy?

And for the record FEDEX Express and it's predecessor Federal Express have always been under the RLA. In 1996 Fred lobbied to keep them from changing that status.

The amendment would allow a union vote at the local level. That could create havoc across the system.

An example, albeit a poor one for simplicity; imagine SDF based pilots being IPA, while ANC based pilots could vote ALPA or to not be represented at all. All would still be UPS pilots however.

An editorial from the Washington Times.

Thanks for the civil answers. As Salty Dog said, this is a battle between our managements; way above our pay grades.

Seems so strange that FedEx is anti-RLA yet four FedEx companies are on the list.

Hmmmm, why is FedEx Express not the same as FedEx Ground, LTL, Custom critical, or freight.

It's almost as if FedEx runs them completely separate. Almost as if there are different sort facilities for each company

Hmmm

We don't drive trucks either. Just high speed package car operators here ...

Anybody have an idea how many different "Independent Contractors" are employed by FedEx system-wide? I'm not trying to get into the middle of anybody's argument, I just don't think I've ever heard a number.

Or, UPS could stop the charade of pretending that every station is served by 5 or 10 separate "independent contractor" airlines, concede that they're all carrying the same product for the same end-user (UPS), and bring them in-house. Which is kind of what Alan McArtor (FedEx) made them do in 1988

ALPA is less like a union and more like a group of associations. A real union will join other unions in solidarity during labor disputes. I know how many on here are mindlessly anti anything France but, when they strike, practically the whole country strikes.

Vive La France!

Speaking of mindless. Yeah, it's a really good thing when a whole country's commerce system is shut down because a few union workers don't like the color of the toilet paper in the John. That's not solidarity....that's stupidity.
