Unbelievable.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys - hope this works out and the economy/peak season is plentiful.

I can only imagine how FDX management is watching this unfold.

I am afraid both Giants have been waiting for the other to pull the trigger.

With exception to the few HKG & 757 pilots, it's an across the board a shared $$$ sacrifice to keep pilots on the payroll. But that's our problem, the majority of the group voted for this contract and didn't see this coming, who really can say they did.
I don't know all the details of the FedEx/ALPA deal from last fall, but what is the bottom line?

A 40% haircut, and no furloughs?

Do you guys have any furloughs? Is your company still threatening a furlough, even after the haircut?

Thanks. I hope there are better days ahead for all of us.

No, it's not that he couldn't participate. He simply DID NOT WANT to participate. A CA making 200K a year can't afford giving up 10 hours of sick time? That's ridiculous. I'd be confident to say there are at least a few lesser paid F/O's at UPS who also have families and mortgages who are participating in the MOU to help save their fellow employees. This guy you flew with is a coward. He didn't have the guts to be honest with you. It's that simple. Unfortunately, we have far too many one-ways like that in this industry.

I totally agree with you 100%. Even if the dude has kids at Harvard....how about making them take a loan out for a class or two? If anything, it will show the kids to take some responsibility for themselves. Sorry, but the "I have kids in college" excuse is LAME and I don't have sympathy for that one (or any excuse for that matter).

What part of voluntary don't you understand? Like it or not, this is a voluntary program. Some will and some won't. You are going to have to accept that.

OK, accepted.

Don't try to talk to me about IPA solidarity ever again, then.

We have a part of the contract that says that BLG will be reduced to a min of 48hrs in a 4 week bid (60? in a 5 week) before any furloughs. We assumed that they had to go to 48/60 however the company interpreted that they could just reduce it to any number they want in each seat. Grievance pending on that. My line for May was 60 while others are full pay, still others are in the 50's. Talk of furloughs have subsided. However, I believe being in position for the recovering economy has a little more to do with that.

Make no mistake fellas, if it wasn't mandatory, we would probably have the same, if not less participation from our group. Good luck guys.

What part of Bob Millers message do you not get. This is hugely important to every IPA pilot. If 1400 of us can't even contribute 10 hours of sick leave for something this huge, we are truly screwed as a union.

If 1400 of us are really counting on that sick check in January, it must mean they aren't calling in sick when they should. On the next contract we should look into dropping the sick check in January and instead just bank the sick time in case we really need it. that would at least give some guys the incentive to call in sick when they actually are.
