FDX - CAN Airport Hotel Gouge

I too was on this...haven't checked your pairing but usually they build to have at least 1 in 7 off at beginning of trip and on return there isn't a non stop back till Sunday so you layover till then... I got approval to G/t to Hong Kong right after the standby, about $500 and get NWA back to LAX for a lot less than the China southern flight.

Since we’re talking about CAN layover hotels, here’s my pitch for the downtown hotel, the Holiday Inn. From the SIG reports, guys are complaining about this hotel because there’s not enough “western activities/eateries” close by. One solution is to move to another hotel closer to the Expat area. The problem I see with moving is the potential cost to us in the long term. The Holiday Inn is giving us a FREE breakfast and FREE drinks/food at happy hour. Plus, the lobby bar stays open well past midnight. If you go out the hotel for a short 10-15 minute walk, you’ll find a couple of nice restaurants/bars on the ISLAND, plus there’s even a Starbucks.
For those who want to check-out the Expat area, cab rides are cheap..about $4 one way.
So, be careful what you wish for, a move could cost us more money if the new hotel doesn’t honor the FREE benefits we’re receiving at the Holiday Inn!!

The breakfast is nice, so are the snacks with the free booze...the walk over to the island isn't bad(and yes there is a fourbucks), it does almost seem like you are in another city over there(it's actually clean). On a cost vs. actually having something to do, I would vote for the expat area.
just my 2 cents...

I just had 4 days there earlier this month. Bring some emergency food (ie, oatmeal, soups, ramen) to survive. Good (and free) breakfast at the hotel, emergency supplies for lunch and then dinner at the hotel or the terminal. Gym is better than some (dumbells to 50#), but it doesn't compare to most Asia hotels. Bus from the terminal to town takes about 50 minutes. I took the shuttle from the hotel to the hub (schedule is on dispo) to use the computer (green screen) and that seemed to really confuse the driver. I guess no pilots had done that before. Bring books, movies and plan on catching up on your sleep.
