Well Boys............I agree and sympathize with all the acrimony about the masses not knowing/participating on Memorial Day. But Fella"s......it's service without Kudos that makes service worthwhile......yes I know, they should know, and they should appreciate it.......but that's not why we did it. We did it because it was required/essential and no one else would. We walk the post, fly the CAP, Keep the station and Guard the Border so that all the rest can watch American Idol with their family in peace. That's the way it is. My personal message to all fellow Vets is.......thank you.......I will do all of the above again with you for all the right reasons.... Semper Fi,...Arrrrughaaa, or any other rallying cry, I AM WITH YOU AND ONE OF YOU......Well Done.....

The general public is ignorant of many things. All holidays are commercialized these days. The origin of Memorial Day was Decoration Day, where people would decorate the graves of the Civil War dead. I wish I lived near an area like Arlington to take my family to. We did Gettysburg one Memorial Day, and that was good. Today Memorial Day is about Beer and BBQ, which is fine as long as you remember and honor those below:

Ranger

Yes. The 75th Ranger Regiment Association is having their reunion the same week as the Ranger Hall of Fame inductions for this year. One of our guys was just buried at Arlington and is a member of the RHOF. I'll be paying my last respects to him and a few others. We purchased and have placed bricks on the walkway leading up to the Ranger Memorial for all of our Vietnam KIA's so I'll pay my respects there as well.

Somebody already said it in this thread but being around the young men and women that currently serve our country does give me hope. They are collectively amazing people.

When you're there, swing by one of the 99 inductee's. Col J.G. C. Jr.

His son works here and is extremely proud of him. ... but like Surgar Ray's son said on the 7UP commercial... awww he's just my dad.
