UPS: MOU numbers

HS,
If they do furlough, do you think there will be attrition among the furloughees and possibly the new bottom 300.
Given the choice Southwest/corporate or just going to work for Mom and Pop may have it's merits.
Just curious of others opinions.

Obviously, depending on the length of the furlough and the job market will dictate how many of the 300 will leave. I am sure most will try to find another job. I have mixed feelings about being displaced to ANC. On one hand, it is a job, and on the other it would be a job location that I would not like. Life is too short to be miserable most the time. But where else would anyone go right now? Not many airlines hiring right now and I am too dumb to get out of this wonderful industry.

Notwithstanding the sickening climate of our UPS careers right now, this is still, by far, the greatest flying job in the world. This is the Holy Grail. I'd much rather take a three year furlough here, then come back, over spending the rest of my life flying for Southwest.
And aside from Southwest, who else is hiring? No one for whom I'd want to fly...that's for sure. Corporate gigs? You'd have to talk to a lot of corporate pilots before you find one that wouldn't trade places with us. NetJets wouldn't be bad, but even they're trying to trim down the roster.
I suppose you could find a job flying in China, India, or some other third world country on the other side of the planet, but who wants to do that? Flying is fun, but not that fun.
Now, if you're fortunate enough to have a family business, or are wealthy enough to start your own, that might be appealing. But, I am neither wealthy, nor have a family business. I imagine most of us would say the same.
I, for one, will be very glad to come back in three years, if it comes down to a furlough (I hope it doesn't). I'm not going anywhere. I'd be really stupid to turn my back on this job out of spite. It's a great job, and I will always love it. This is MUCH better than my former legacy job, from which I was also furloughed.
I doubt there will be much, if any, attrition.

I'm out of the loop.....SWA is hiring?
I have a buddy at NetJets. I just talked to him today and they are trying to mitigate furloughs over there too. Their business is waaaaaaay down. Point is NetJets isn't an option right now.

No. SWA has not hired since 9/08, I believe. Management at SWA says they are fat on pilots.

Good point. They are not. I've been out of the loop too. Once I put on the brown uniform, I never thought I'd need to be in the loop on who else is hiring.
Besides, why would anyone else want to hire a furloughed UPS pilot? They know we'd go back when recalled; they don't want to get burned.
Moreover, I'd sooner prostitute myself in the men's room down at the bus station before I'd Pay For Training, A.K.A 737 Type at Southwest.
So, that settles it. No other flying jobs.
