Line crewmembers continue to lead the way with our growth initiatives, accounting for over 60 percent of the sold leads in the Flight District. Please congratulate F/O Robert Brumby III, F/O Tim Diemer, and Capt. Dean Clark on their sold leads in April. Contact Shawn Mattingly, [email protected], or Chris Zimmerman, (502) 359-7306, if you have any questions about Take Charge or need help submitting a sales lead.

Oh thanks and by the way, you furloughed!

I'm simply one guy, but I did sign up for 18 months VLOA. I may even extend that down the road if its offered. I'm in it for selfish reasons for sure, but since it is to save jobs I signed up for a longer leave than I would have had the circumstances were different. I dont know what I'm going to do for money, but I will figure that out later. I have alot of stuff for sale right now and that should get me by for a good while. I need to get rid of a bunch of crap anyway. Its time for me to get financially lean and evaluate what I really need rather than what I want. Its making me realize just how much crap I dont need. I'm really looking forward to getting this leave.

I understand the frustrations of those on the chopping block. But, please refrain from blaming this on the "old guys" who are allowed by law to continue working to age 65. Its over, its done, its old news, please get over it. I felt the pain from this rule too by losing a captains seat, I'm over it. You also have to remember that just because one is a senior captain does not mean that they do not have financial woes. If you were age 60 and just saw your B plan and 401K take a 60% hit would you retire now when you could keep working a few more years????

In addition, the reality is that UPS is parking jets to stay lean, and has more bodies than they need at this time. The age 65 rule, although a factor in the overstaffing, did not cause this situation.

I would encourage anyone whom can take advantage of this program to do so. Either you want to/can do it, or you cant. I will not judge anyone just because they dont want to participate. I look at this as a great opportunity to take a break from my carreer and do something a little different for a while, knowing full well that I can come back to my flying gig in the end. We just dont get that opportunity in our line of work. Maybe it will suck, maybe it will be so good I wont want to come back. But my guess is that when I do come back I will appreciate my carreer more than I ever have.

I hope this program works out for everyone, its a great opportunity, please take advantage of it if you can. You may just find that its the best thing you ever did for yourself in the middle of your career.

Dude,
I expect to see way more cool pix from the Baja! Thanks for stepping up. Maybe there's a market for some of those most excellent star shots? Be good.

Thanks, will do. I have the luxury of doing this and many dont, I consider myself very fortunate. The whole idea is to have fun. Lucky for me that money is very low on my list of life's priorities. All that said, I dont mind being poor, but it would suck to be old and poor.

I may not be a UPS pilot, but I do have friends who are. This comment is a general one referencing that statement above.

If you were age 60 (+/- 2 years) when all this financial stuff started and you saw a 60% loss in your 401(k) and/or B-plan, then that is certainly p**s poor planning on your part or your financial planner's part. I'm sorry, but I lost about 50% and I am less than 40 and invested very aggressively in all my investments. Investments are supposed to get more conservative over time. My parents (both 62) lost 35% at the absolute worst point from their high.

60% loss!??? Is that 100% invested in equities?

EWR;

Please refrain from passing judgement on a group of people until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Many pilots have had their nest egg reduced due to unplanned reasons such as a divorce initiated by their spouse or a devastating disease of a loved one. It's quite possible your viewpoint will change once you reach their age.

So what if its **** poor planning? The reality is that there are folks like I mentioned and they will not take an early retirement. You missed the issue and my point completely, but thats OK
