Half a line with full benefits as compared to unemployed for a couple years? Who has more incentive to make sure this happens?

We finally got rid of this Voice Response contraption thing from 1970's, and finally entered the 1990's with a basic internet portal.

FLICA is about 10-15 years away at this company!

I can see a senior FO bidding a JS line and then getting bored at home with the 3 weeks off at home he'll have. He'd be very likely to pick up a SJU layover or a EWR afternoon turn. If a junior guy did a JS with the intent of building his pay back up with OT he may be unable to get anything. I see OT continuing to be gobbled up and reserves not working.
Your right. If you are junior you may not be able to pick up open time. But if you are that junior on any seat you will be way more impacted by a furlough than any senior guy. Also you have all year to make up the 75 hour drop not just one pay period.

“We are hopeful that the IPA is successful in its quest to obtain sufficient crewmembers in each of the available voluntary programs,” said Flight Operations Vice President Capt. Rick Barr.

Details on the results of this effort will be released as soon as possible after May 26, 2009"[/quote]

Is this the same Rick Barr that used to be at FedEx?

In the agreement, if I read it correctly, you can not pick up time if you are doing a JS. You will be the last called for JAs.

I agree. As a bottom 300 guy I feel compelled to volunteer for something. My butt is the one truly on the line. If I don't step up and figure a way to make something work then who do I blame when and if I am furloughed. I am not saying I have a sugar momma at home or have some massive life savings to bridge the gap. It is quite the contrary in my house. We do have our cars paid for, not credit cards, and we live within our means. My largest problem/blessing is we have our first child coming in Sept and my wife doesn't make enough to justify her working after the baby comes. A JS or reduced pay line means I have to hit the streets and diversify. I will have to be creative and not afraid for busting my ars for bit to bridge the gap. We all have talents in some other field, we might not realize it but we do. Now is the chance to exploit those skills. A family friend of mine is a corporate life coach, very successful. She was just telling me that the greatest skill right now of highly successful people is the ability to diversify. The careers of our father's, the ones where they worked for the same company for 30+ years and have a nice pension saved up, are over.

All of this is better than not having any of a UPS check.

I am all for helping mitigate a furlough and was relieved to discover that UPS just wanted a 3% B plan reduction and 2008 pay rates.

You sound like some of the "experienced" guys I fly with

Glad you got hired when you did. Whining about how you can give nothing is pathetic. This program is VOLUNTARY. If you cant give DONT!!!

Diversifying is a must as far as I'm concerned even in good times. As a group, pilots are generally in better shape than the general population, but there is a huge list of things that can take your medical from you. While disability plans are good, eventually even the most lethargic couch potato will want to do something.

He wants everyone else to take a paycut for him so he doesn't have to choose either.
