You are correct sir!

PC's Flight Ops Update states that additional postings are anticipated in the Sep/Nov '09 timeframe to address pilot attrition through retirement (!!), along with additionall 777 and 757 acft deliveries scheduled in calendar '10.

While that's all GREAT news, I'm still betting we'll see a few "new" Over 65 guys sticking around for their "third tour" in the back of the 727 (!!!)

Secondaries? So they can go back to line averages of 58-62 hrs a month after a slight improvement due to the vacancy bids? I don't see that happening
There probably will be some level of secondaries filled on the upcoming bids. The airline is presently excessed to where the company wants it to be, which is why they've stopped excesses and are planning vacancies to tweak their final numbers. It may produce lower line averages, but they feel 4.a.2.b is working for them and are comfortable with it at present imo.

IMHO we will have an excess bid included with or shortly after the CDG bid. This one looks certain to me.
Unless they make an early decision to park the remaining A310-200's, I'll take that bet. Personally from what I've seen they like to be relatively cautious, so after this big realignment, I expect them to take a breath and look at how things go for the rest of the year.

I also see an excess bid after the 757 CA bid if widebody pilots go 757. The 757 is taking flying from the 727. If the 727 CAs don't bid out then some will have to be excessed. They're already down to 58 CH for 727 CA so folks will need to go.

Same goes with another 777 bid. It will take flying away from MD11. If Airbus/Boeing bubbas bid it, could cause excess out of MD11 CA. Excess may not happen, but it will affect MD11 line averages.
Why? While I think they will fill secondaries, the company doesn't have too and won't if they feel it would create an excess. As far as the 757/777 taking flying from other aircraft, they could have increased the size of the recent excesses if they felt that way, yet didn't. Going forward, absent an additional A310 parking, I think they prefer to create movement the traditional way through vacancy bids. The 727 and DC-10 shrank for years without excess bids, but in good times people paid no attention to the line in the bids that said, 'The filling of secondary vacancies will be determined at the close of the bid. At this time, we are projecting
reductions in all DC10 and B727 seats.

As far as the 757 and 777 bids, I agree we are taking a breather. The company is taking a break after the current round of excesses until we show our hand on who will bid the upcoming vacancies.

My theory is, as we move toward a healthier manning level, management will let A300 and Md11 CA line averages creep up above the other seats.
