FDX-O's Latest Email
Sure was long, lots o'details, but what motivated him to write it in the first place? I'm led to believe that in this time of seriously significant issues with flight ops, safety, our contract amendable date next year, 4a2b today , excess bids, etc. etc. that he's getting so many emails from pilots about line purity that he felt compelled to respond to that? I'm not sure which is worse, that he responds to line purity over more important issues, or that we (apparently) have so many pilots writing to the SCP about something as mundane as that? My apologies to those who are impacted by what appears to be reduced line purity, it just isn't an issue in my neck of the woods.

With all due respect, it is more than just line purity.
I am in agreement with you that there are more important issues to deal with.
I think people are pi$$ed because they are getting squeezed on their pay, and they are also flying longer, more fatiguing trips. They are tired of paying for managements staffing errors. It is more important to the company to gain leverage in these challenging times than to focus their efforts on navigating through it. People see that, and it makes them mad. They e-mail Zero with their gripes, and naively think it will help.
Zero's Zerogram was like listening to Bernanke testify in front of congress. "It is so complicated, you don't understand!" I think people understand just fine. They control it, period!

Couple things that stuck with me were his seemingly ominous warnings about the future of the overnight shipping industry and his use of the word "we" when referring to management. The guy should turn in his union card. Amazing how quickly some of the higher ups in the crew force so easily shift their allegiances.

I believe he is right. The overnight business might change drastically in this economy and might never come back to where it once was. The same thing with 4 dollar fuel. At some point it does not make economic sense to ship overnight.
Also, in my mind I look at UPS. They run their operation with around 3000 guys. Why can't we.

I like the Union's response to 0's email.
My favorite line:
"We’d like to thank the SCP for his support of the SIG process, but he’s not at his best when he is apparently cutting and pasting emails from his efficiency experts in Crew Resource Planning to send to the crew force."
Nice to see people with some teeth (on our side).
Thank you Jim.
