It's late - I'm tired - and not all that sharp right now - so I have to ask - that was a joke, right???? Because shareholders hold no sway to UPS - UPS will do as they please, when they please - with the control they have over their stock, they need not answer to anyone. If they had had their way - there would be no 'airline pilots' employed by UPS - OR - the airline pilots they were forced to employ would of been 'promoted' truck drivers.

And yes - they do have way too much management - - and therein lies quite a bit of our problem.
Not really a joke. If you look at UPS stock, there is a reason it has ALWAYS lagged. All the 50 # brains that analyze companies for a living know that with the management numbers present at UPS the efficiency is going to suffer. How many times have you seen too many people in charge and not enough (good) workers. I am not saying that manglers dont work hard. They do (long hours). But what exactly are they doing that promotes the business model and profit? Every line pilot flying revenue is generating profits/service. Seems to me the managers are creating power points (with no point) and MRB's till we dont know what the @#%$ we are doing.........

That was my point. Not that many pilots own that much company stock (especially since we only get a 5% discount now)

The number is 300, not the 570. Parking the 8 has been the driver for the talks.

Yeah and that 300 now looks MUCH more accurate. Where are they going to realign 270 bodies to? There's minimal to no open time on most fleets now. Makes the threat of an open time ban less than threatening I would think.

Someone please convince me that, in light of this info, "there WILL BE NO fulough."

The only way there won't be a furlough is the execution of the proposed voluntary measures and then the subsequent volunteers signing up for the programs. This will be a tough one, I hope that if the programs do materialize, we as a group really do volunteer and save the money required to make the voluntary programs work. Time will tell.

The only way I can convince you that there will be no furlough is if I bring my water board over.

Rumor I have heard is that this was the plan to park the 8's BC they simply were not being utilized. Also to "force" people to retire at 65.

I think we got outgunned this week. Lets see what happens next week

I think what his point was is that the average Joe shareholder doesn't know a DC-3 from a DC-8 from a 744. Much less know what a MRB is or the difference between a line pilot and a management pilot.

In other words, it is pointless to look to the shareholders for action. If we are so sore over the number of management pilots, perhaps we should be asking ourselves about the lack of effort to unionizing these folks - as concessonary volcano side letters come into being without a vote.

Looks like this has been the plan all along.

Thanks J Dawg! That is exactly the point I was trying to make. I knew I was too tired to post an intelligent response. Appreciate you explaining it better. The company would never put up with outside interference - they barely put up with those minor pesky things like rules, laws, contracts, etc.

JustUnderPar - As far as managers - yes, there are some really fine guys working here. But there are more employed who spend most of their time justifying their positions. This is the only company I have worked for that the chief pilot's office isn't a 'real' liason between the pilots and upper management - instead it is used as a hammer by UPS. The union is our only real defense against the company.

Understandable. Just making point that it is the only defense against the company. The chief pilot's office is not there to help you - just the opposite.
