UPS DC-8's Parked end of May

This is a little insight into how much putting 300-500 people on the street is going to effect everyone. If 300 are furloughed I would imagine that the bottom 1000 will be effected (500 would change this even more). If you have a seniority number within 800(based on 500 pilots in ANC) from the bottom count on being in ANC (if they keep the current staffing levels).
Bottom 300 Capts will take a 30 % pay hit and will take the best seats their seniority can hold. I.E. More displacements....Move package # 1. Capts not staying in ANC that get downgraded as FO's (already happening) This displaces more to ANC. More moves.
Also dont count on any move benefits from the company for those that live in ANC currently. They are going to lose so much money on this deal. IMO I think everyone should move. Displacement = package #1. Costs around 50-90k (depends on how much your current home is worth, 6% real estae fee). Two cars, Household goods (18.5k) is around 30-35k (depending on where you live). Paid move up. Paid move back 3 years later (when retirements start up again and recalls should start). Then another paid move for those furloughed back. There is the 54 million!!
No OT/JA's. Everyone moves. Change training prefs. Lets roll!
Did I say anything about all the moves?

Great idea ,but what if UPS moves the 747-400 to Looneyville?

The IPA will not stand up to the company. If they did it would mean BM would have to stop playing golf with management, stop going to managements family parties, and stop drinking beers with management. The only thing BM is going to do is look out for his 88 hire buddies.
Personally we should try to join ALPA. At least then we would all know we are going to get screwed... and we get a nice magazine.

I agree ALPA does have a great magazine! Was wondering how much time BM will spend on making sure the 40 FE's over 65 get a good deal?

Any and all retirements help those at the bottom of the seniority list.

Nothing prevents them from doing that except that little sim they just moved up there. All the Manglers up there (did I say anything about moves? and their moves are MUCH more expensive than IPA'ers).
I think the EGO's in the airline would prevent them from doing that as well. THEY dont want to look bad in front of Atlanta do they?
We shall see. I like to move though!!

I know the debate, I just thought it a decent thing for some managers to donate money for the kids. Everyone will take it differently.

Maybe the IPA EB and UPS management can have a golf game at one of those Looneyville country clubs where most of them live to raise money for the furloughees. Sorry I couldn't resist.
100 from the bottom
100% IPA
Silver Spoon ready (Thanks BG)

It doesn't take much more than a flat bed and a broken lease to get the sims back to SDF. A year ago they were in Brazil and Canada. The flt. standards managers never did move up there, most of them commute to SDF and tell me that the company was always wishy washy about them going and never approved the moving dollars. As for the ACP's that went up there, we had them before there was a domicile, they could stay afterwards and act as reserves and crack the whip on the rest of us as we go through

The real expensive part is moving crewmembers. And not enough take/need the move package to make it that expensive overall.
Then there's this ... reduce ANC. Open a SDF 400 base and increase the size of the SDF MD base.
Realtive to most ANC FOs, the DC8 FOs and other FOs move into the newly created SDF vacancies. Senior Captains from ANC take a new SDF vacancy. If it is on the same airplane, would there be a seat lock ? ( I don't really know, but doubt it ... can you say LOA if there is a base lock.)
Junior ANC Captains and enough FOs remain in ANC to fly in a smaller base, 1/2 to 1/3 its present size with much reserve coverage. More junior than it is already because the bottom go to the street and junior Captains get downgraded back to their base and a/c of choice.
I personally think an SDF 400 base is now more of a reality than it ever was ... just IMHO.

Most would agree that a scab is one that willing crosses a picket line to do another man's job.
So I guess those of us that get furloughed need to picket the management doors to have them cross our line to the airplane.
