Default UPS Furlough?

We're still waiting for the official word. What do you folks think they'll do?

I don't believe we will hear anything until the june layoff notification date.
UPS has a PR problem now that the mitigation plan is public knowledge, how they get around this if they choose to layoff will be interesting.

The above is not minimizing the impact on any of our pilots, waiting is terrible.

What do you think the economy is going to do between now and then?
I think the word will be coming when that becomes more clear. The further out the forecast, the greater the potential for inaccuracy. They won't shed valuable assets unless absolutely necessary.

Sept 1st is when we'll find out. I expect no useful info until then.

What ever happened to the DOD contracts? I thought there was supposed to be an announcement soon about who got what.

I read in another thread that FDX bids $1+Billion worth of DOD and UPS bids about $200 million. If the DHL deal was supposed to bring $1 Billion annually, and Rick Barr was quoted at an ANC GMM that had the DHL deal gone through, we would have added 35 airframes in 18 months. So UPS bids $1 Billion in DOD contracts for the next several years, we can surely mitigate a furlough, and possibly even grow.

I thought all along that's what UPS was waiting for.

What happened to Squeege's UPS thread? Moderator removal? Didn't pass the content censor?

Rott,
Here is the website. Solicitations close April 30, 2009. Contract announcements will be announced about mid August or so.
Look in the right hand column for all the details.

6/1 everyone else will be displaced from the 8. The furlough will ony include the bottom 70 now on the panel. Additional attrition will be the 40 or so that are already 65--they will be mandatory retired.
