UPS - Bye bye DC-8s?
#71
Call me naive or whatever.....but I think they're going to furlough because business is down about 20% give or take depending on the market. Exports from Taiwan are down about 50%, Japan about 30%, China about 30%. The've idled a bunch of DC 8's and a dozen or so 757's.
The capital markets and lending are in shambles. This isn't NPR and CNN hype. This is the worst thing to happen since 1929.
UPS has survived for over 100 years because they react to the current and anticipated business cycle and environment. Its not a socialist jobs program. We know how those "strategies" worked out (Cuba,USSR,Peoples Rep.China...)
In about 3 years, the current over 60 guys will be gone, UPS will be growing and stronger. The weak will have died and/or been eaten.

Why are they gettin' deleted? Man speaks his opinion, however over the top or misguided, and the mods delete it? I've been an APC member for over three years now, maybe longer...mods are tighter than ever.

UPS sucks!
Anyone who left another job to come here is a fool! And that includes me!!
I regret my decision and will spend the rest of my career regretting my decision with no loyalty towards this place.
Anyone who thinks that a UPS job is a good deal, I can assure you that these people are the worst a-holes in the world. They treat the employees like crap, the bases suck, the equipment sucks and the managment are morons.
Screw YOU-PS!!!!!

I do however disagree with your technical analysis of the bases and equipment. The bases don't suck...ONT is a great base. Actually, ANC is a very nice small base, if you happen to live up there. The commute is really the only thing that sucks about ANC.
As for equipment, the 747-400 certainly doesn't suck...neither did the 757/767 in my opinion.
Come to think of it, calling the management team at UPS "morons" isn't exactly accurate either. One could call them short sighted, or that they lack the desire/talent to be innovative. That would probably be a little closer to the mark.
In the long run, I honestly don't think you'll regret your decision to work at UPS.
Oh....and keep those funny posts coming!

No problem with opinions and rational posts. Repeating the same crude message multiple times in several threads will get a delete.
This poster is representing himself and the forum in a very poor light.
Opinions are fine when supported by facts, if you want to throw out slurs this isn't the place.
Take the high road gentlemen, you have tools to deal with this. Use them.

Squeegie man,
A kittle perspective, I was hired here in 1995, then a week later turned down a job at United...3 years later I was making $56/hr as a 727 F/O and my buddy at United were making $80/hr as 767 and 777 F/O's and they got a real nice sock bonus worth about $80,000 !! they were flying out of NY and I was a New Yorker sitting reserve or Late Hot in Hoterville. I was ****ed a little! 2 years later we got a new contract, I was home doing PHL hot and life was great... 15 years later and my United buds are volunteering for 35 day tours in Afghanistan because it pays better, and I'm a Captain here...Long term you'll be way better off here than at DAL or wherever you came from, step back and realize things will change.
Good Luck, I know how you must feel.

Heard it from a reliable source last night that today the fate of the DC-8 gets decided. Supposedly there's a high level meeting in Louisville today about it. The planes could be parked as soon as this June, and/or completely gone after peak (Jan 2010).

Probably that they have never considered or been directly exposed to this type of method of "people" management. Hopefully we can convince them this is the best way to manage the situation.
