To the delight of UPS Labor, some IPA members engage in behaviour analagous to

Remember the company is the one making the furlough threat and possibly ignoring the mitigation that the IPA has offered. It would appear that Netjets has asked for what we have offered instead of a layoff threat. The difference in the way the corporations think of their pilots, UPS a disposible commodity, NetJets an asset worth working with.

"However having worked at UPS for a long time to go I do like to know who I can trust to stand behind me, You are correct that I could trust the vast majority." - 757upspilot
And that is very understandable. I too want to know who I can trust when flying - and realize that at times 'lip service' is given instead of actual opinion. After spending too many years in confrontation with this company - be it pushing for contract compliance or defending myself - the idea of having conflict with fellow IPA members doesn't sit well. The remaining years at UPS might be spent with a little less 'open discussion' in the cockpit as one will not be sure where the other crew's loyalties/opinions lie - and that is unfortunate. Lessons learned the hard way years past - not to be repeated.

Bingo
Wow someone who gets it. 3 years until age 65 goes away but then wait 3 more years while they negotiate a new contract. That puts us awfully close to the 7 year recall rights. I am planning my life like this job will never come back. I hope I am pleasantly surprised and totally wrong. If not at least I got to buy a really nice leather jacket as a memento.

If they actually layoff, very probable, I hope you are wrong about the time frame.
This is a choice the company is making, one they don't have to make.

I've been flying with guys over 60 that are trying to address the over 65 crowd a bit differently than you might expect. You put the DC8 down and what CONTRACTUAL language is in there regarding engineers over 65. You might think that with no airplane seat equals no job. Read the contract. The only way out is for a furlough. How do you furlough all the way up the ranks to get to someone over 65. They are still trying to figure out how to squeeze the goose for one more golden egg.

I wouldn't worry about 2012.
