What? Are you friXXN kidding me? You don't see anyone supporting the junior folks. Have you looked around the cockpit lately and asked how our collective BLG's are? Support at about 4million/month! I think its the right thing to do... trying to prevent furloughs but your lack of appreciation for the obvious is painful. In case you haven't read any of the recent e-mails from the NC Chairman there was additional "furlough protection" included in the proposal to the Company.
Any other airline contract would've had you out the door long ago. Go look at the UPS notes on this site and see how "supportive" they are. Bet you wouldn't be willing to trade positions with one of their junior folks.

The UPS junior folks are in a more precarious position.

The junior guys at FEDEX are very thankful, recognize the sacrifice being made by the senior pilots...and we salute you!

We're all sacrificing. And, though I appreciate the sentiment from guys on the crew bus or in the cockpit who support the reduced BLGs to stave off a furlough, it's not like it was voluntary. I'd bet if you had a secret ballot choosing between furlough and continued reduced BLGs, the tally would run about 3-1 in favor of a furlough. Those of us in the bottom 1000 primarily voting to keep it, of course. While there are exceptions in the top 75% of the seniority list (many who frequent this board would probably be included in that group) who would vote to help the junior guys, I think most would send the junior guys packin' for a few years in order to bring BLGs back up. And I'm not targeting any individuals here, so noone get their pantyhose balled up. Just my opinion on how a secret ballot would go.

No doubt on the poll. Every single Captain to a tee (and these are all good guys) that I've flown with in the past 3 months has said, after some nudging, that they would prefer to furlough and get their BLGs up. It's coming - at some point these guys will go to the Union leadership and demand negotiations to furlough guys in exchange for BLG increases.
I'm sure a few have already barked up a storm about it at the union offices.

Bottom line is this - they're saving more per month with the BLG decrease than a furlough would save. The union is not driving this. When furloughs will save the company more money - the company will furlough.
It may not get to that point though - 4.a.2.b. is banking a bunch of money. You've got to furlough a lot of people for a long time to save the kind of money that 4.a.2.b is saving them overnight.
