UPS - 747F domicile in the lower 48?

If the company furloughs in light of all the savings the IPA has come up with, the bitterness created by this will cost them for years to come. I personally will carry it with me until my last day on the property. It will be my personal agenda to jam them at every opportunity possible. I have talked with enough of my peers to know that this same feeling is held by many others as well.

Until the furlough announcement I really didn't understand. Sometimes I found it hard to believe how one could be so bitter. It only took a second to understand when the furlough was announced.

Why? Loads are down, the economy is reeling, and we have an abundance of underused flight crew right now. If someone decides to get rid of the -8s the problem will get much worse. How can you expect UPS not to furlough under this circumstance?
The IPA does not pay me. Bob Miller is not sending my kids to college. That money comes from UPS and I need the company to do well. Screwing your employer by "jamming them at every opportunity possible" makes you an ignorant left wing liberal zealot. If you want job for life protection during every downturn go love in North Korea.

Don't worry, the company is doing just fine. In fact, they are doing quite well. Loads are down, but they ARE begining to pick up. There is a reason they don't give the flight crews the volume each night like in the past. They want you to think the sky is falling and want you to give something back when certain leaders in this company get a 700% pay increase. You are either in management or have been drinking the brown water. UPS is doing just fine, and will come out of this recession even stronger.
The IPA does not pay you, but they sure the hell do a lot to make sure you get paid what you get paid. If UPS wants to ignore the cost savings presented by the IPA, more power to them. It only proves one thing though. It proves this is nothing more than an attempt to open up our contract and for us to take consessions. If you can't see that, you must be blind!

You make some valid points, from a purely financial perspective.
However, good companies (e.g. Southwest) have learned that if you take care of the employees, they will pay you back many times over.
Pilots (especially at a cargo company offering on-time guarantees) may be in the unique position to cost the company a LOT more than what they would save by furloughing.
Of course the company has a responsibility to the bean counters and the shareholders. A furlough may look good on paper, but it could cost them in the long run.

When UPS turns their back next week on over $50 million in VOLUNTARY savings offered by the IPA, how is this about your companies "need to do well" ??
And just how should the bottom 300 react to this ... Offer assistance to their struggling employer at every opportunity ? I know that's what I'll be doing. Watching UPS make BILLIONS in spite of themself !!!
I do take solice in knowing that " the well-being of our employees is paramount .... "

Nice attempt at stirring the pot. Straight out of management 101.
100% IPA Give up nothing!

The whole reason behind this furlough threat is about power, control, and opening up the contract for as many concessions as they can squeeze out of us. Have another pitcher of that tasty management Kool-Aid.

How many millions did you say UPS lost in Q4, 2008...one of the worst quarters in the history of the US economy since the Great Depression? Oh that's right, they didn't lose anything, they made in excess of $250M net profit! This is the same company that wants to give the CEO how many hundred percent of a pay raise next year? Yet, this same company threatens to kick the bottom 300 pilots to the curb because they need $54M in savings. Yeah, I'm buying that line of BS.

So...how many JAs have you flown in the last 6 months, or do you have a little M on your ID card already?
