I have a trip on Tuesday and was called by crew scheduling to see if I commute or not. I told them I was commuting up to ANC on Monday. Skeds said to not leave for ANC until I checked with them in case they needed me somewhere else. Everything is still in a big state of flux and no one knows for sure what Redoubt is going to do next!

ANC to Reopen at 1400ADT March 29
According to the Anchorage Daily News the Ted Stevens International Airport should reopen at 14:00 Alaska Daylight Savings Time (22:00UTC) today. March 29. Of course this may be subject to future events so please check all appropriate sources of info.

Not saying they are giving commuters any "special" treatment. They were just letting me know that if there aren't any jets in ANC there would be no reason to commute up there. Same thing last week - jumpseats called to let me know that all aircraft were being rerouted through OAK and I wasn't going to get to ANC on company a/c. Shortly after that skeds called and canx my trip on the next evening.

The problem now is that they can't even build viable deadhead trips out of ANC due to non-availability of commercial flights out -they're all either oversold or cancelled.
There's a trip in open time now with a front-end DH on FDX (approved by Duty Officer)
They're also shifting some trips to MEM and LAX since very few (if any) airplanes are actually flying into/out of ANC (FedEx or otherwise)
Can they build a ficticious deadhead in the hopes that "someone in the lower 48" will pick it up and deviate? What if the person who picks it up is physically in ANC and doesn't deviate?
Then the company is obligated to get them to the deadhead location somehow while they're already on the clock - or cancel the trip and put them in sub and have nothing that they can possibly give them in sub either.
