Deutsche Post DHL is being investigated as part of a probe into spying activity. Klaus Zumwinkel, former CEO who was recently found guilty of tax evasion, is thought to be at the centre of the investigation.
Reports that over 60 people were spied upon to stop the release of certain information sparked a thorough investigation. It is alleged that Deutsche Telekom bugged telephone calls of journalists and board members and eight people have so far been implicated.
Klaus Zumwinkel has already been given a two-year suspended sentence and a fine of $1.29m, but with many europeans now focused on fat-cat salaries, overly-generous pension pay-offs, and what many percieve as relatively tame punishments, more pressure is being put on authorities to weed out dubious practices than ever.
Deutsche Post headquarters was raided today as well as other addresses in Bavaria, Switzerland, Italy and Colgne. Former Deutsche Telekom CEO Kai-Uwe Ricke and has had tow proprties raided and computers have been seized as part of the investigation.
Data which revealed the names of key figures involved in tax evasion came to light last year, send a shockwave through the business community in Germany. The information is also thought to be in the hands of UK tax authorities who have confirmed that they are already investigting a number of people in the UK.
As a 22+ yr. employee, I won't be giving back a nickle.

Bugging phone calls of journalists and board members?!?!?!
Wow, if true it makes you think DHL corporate structure was developed by the communist Germany's secret police - STASI....

concessions versus overmanning
Skymaster...
In your simplistic world (or simple mind, your choice), you see furloughs versus concessions for ups/IPA. Concessions will save the company money and cost the union dearly to regain, but still not cure the fundamental manning issue (if there really is one). If ups is overmanned, they will still furlough regardless of any givebacks by the IPA. It's apples and oranges and we have seen concessions at the pax carriers followed by furloughs.

1224 has been negotiating for more work for the same pay. I would rather work the same amount as now for less pay. I don't think it's going to matter either way! ABX Astar and DHL are going to do what they want anyway!

PMFJI, but the situations are pretty similar at Astar/ABX. They are going to furlough no matter what, as ABX already is, because DHL has exited the US domestic market. Both airlines are now grossly overmanned for the remaining route structure, so why give concessions on top of it? Council 017's stance has not changed. No give backs. Whatever happens, happens.
