Pension funding
#11
Amen Timo, any talk of losing the A plan has to stop. The company is going to come after it, and thanks to that APAAD, SWAPA, Prater and our very own DW (plus the entire outgoing LEC if you believe the latest communique from SS) we are going to have to fight tooth and nail to keep something we have already earned.
No sense giving up before the first shot is even fired.
And for all the guys who say the defined benefit plan is a dinosaur, try to imagine how many people would work for the government for 20+ years without one. Military, teachers, police, firefighters, administrators and politicians rely on defined benefit pensions to provide for their retirement. They are like gold, particularly when backed by an entity like the United States Government. So long as the providing entity survives and properly funds the program there is no reason to give up a defined benefit plan.
I believe that FedEx will survive and be profitable in the long run. There is no reason for them to not live up to their obligations to provide a benefit that they promised and can afford.
It is certainly one issue worth falling on our sword over.
