UPS chief pilot

I wasn't going to touch this one with a 20 foot pole, lest a 10 foot one, but here we go. This is meant as informational only, no slants, no bias.
Captain Cook, the rub with some IPA'ers is that not all managers were hired as managers. Some left the IPA ranks for that job.

Even the former IPA'ers that I'm referring to are very stand-up guys. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with SJ (ANC CP), or for the MD-11 guys, how about Doc? These guys are real good guys, and they are making this place a better place to work from the other side. As far as I am concerned, I appreciate all the work that they do for the line guys.
Are there bad apples in management? Of course. Are there bad apples in the IPA? Of course.
It's very possible that there is a movement to bring these guys into the IPA. How will this effect me as being in the crosshairs of a furlough, I don't know, but it seems like it would be better for all of us to get them into the IPA.
Am I wrong here?

What gives you the right to say who is or who is not qualified? Everyone that works here at UPS has earned their position at this company. Explain to me how an airline operates without pilots to do the training and the checking? To suggest that every manager or supervisor is under qualified is sheer nonsense and the matter of being overpaid is a different argument. Granted there are different experience levels, but that also exists among our line pilots. I would place my experience level against yours or anyone else here at UPS, and I assure you that I am not under qualified. When are people like you going to realize we all work for the same company and that we have 500,000 employees world wide that continue to make this a great place to work. This company does not live or die by the Air Group.
Having experienced a furlough at another carrier for 5 years I hope that we can find a way to avoid any layoffs. During this global economic downturn it will take some critical choices by UPS to maintain the profitability of our company. Get a life and stop suggesting that people are running around UPS justifying their existence!!

It appears you are well aware of that, good. That's all I was trying to point out, some think that ALL managers were hired off the street, and that's all I was trying refute
Next time I will use a 30 foot pole and steer clear.....

PLlllllllllllllllllllllllllz. What do they put in your catering in ANC, AV8OR you seem like a stand up guy but remember one thing as i don't know if you're one the 300's. When you're kicked to the side walk sagataki will pick up the slack (ya that good guy you just described) so ups can keep you out longer while your fellow ipa pilots will be taking care of you and whatever the needs you have so you can comeback to a great contract with no concession. We'll take care of all you and just remember this next time you fly with him and ask him if he's willing to help you out (I already know the answer) because i will>
So let’s stay united without turning hateful, that was my only point…
...and while I'm at it...
One thing I find pretty appalling here is the “us versus them” atmosphere. It exists at most places but I think it’s more prevalent here. Frankly, I don’t blame any IPA’er for that because I’ve heard numerous horror stories on how our pilots were treated in the past and I understand why everyone is so deeply suspicious and unwilling to help out.
Just imagine if we could take the top brass of our company and the top union figures and lock them all in one room; then we'd ask them to work out their differences before we unlock the door again. The premise would be – whatever happened in the past is history; from now on both sides shall respect each other and now we will work together to protect our future…
IF the company came to the union and said – “give us ideas on how we can save 54 million (or whatever number) and if the ideas are feasible we honestly promise we’ll give it a try. IF we can save that money, not only will we stop talking about furloughs - heck we might even throw in free internet at every hotel you all are staying at.”
You’d be surprised what we could achieve as a group.
For example, let’s say we could get a small incentive for canceling hotel rooms we don’t use; maybe 25% of the price or so? How about a “hotel bank” - like a ticket bank where we could accumulate our “hotel dollars.” In other words, if a pilot doesn’t need the hotel room let him/her cancel it, keep a few dollars in his/her bank and you’ll see thousands of dollars in savings every month.
Seriously, if the atmosphere wasn’t as poisonous as it is and the company chose to work with us as team there is no telling how far we could reach…
I know, you may say I am a dreamer….

I agree with you on many points, I'm simply saying that vilifying them serves no purpose. They made their choice and there's nothing they can do about it now, is there?

This is a perfect example of ignorance. Reading some of these comments makes me laugh. People respond and make comments about issues they know nothing about. They know nothing about the business and really don't care to. They enjoy being critical and making remarks that have no facts behind them. For those of you who are not UPS employees reading these postings I can assure you this is our bottom 1%. I have always had a great relationship with the IPA crewmembers I fly with and consider a very large number of them good friends. They are the most professional and competant group I've ever been associated with and the few bottom feeders that thrive on spreading discontent and unfounded rumors do not represent UPS but only themselves.

Having that said, I do not ever see any of you as a fellow UPS pilot and do not treat you like one.
Enjoy the extra flying during the furlough.
