Default FDX-Holy HULL-LOSS Batman!!!

Anybody else notice that in May 2010 we will have 99 less jets than today??!!! PC says 37 less Boeings, 13 less DC-10's, 47 less Airbusses, 12 less MD-10's, and 8 less MD-11's. Add in 4 more 777's and 14 more 757's and you have a net loss of 99 jets. If a furlough aint coming i would be very surprised.

Right now I think you guys have about 100 more airplanes than us...I think we see where this is heading.

In may of 2010 it says 263 planes...at 8 crews (16 pilots) per plane that is 4208 pilots plus another 70 S/O's on the 727 gives us a total of about 4300 pilots.... are we really that short after all?

Plus maybe 25 retirements/year if any of the ND's decide to do the "right" thing and retire so some young guy and his family can have a career also (not much chance of that is there?).

gcsass,

Is my math off? Maybe our current Fleet Status numbers are wrong - I hope so!!!

Current Pilots: 4679 (from our current seniority list)
Current Aircraft: 362 (from the current VIPS Fleet Status)
Current Pilots per Aircraft: 12.9 (approx 13)

May '09 Fleet Plan: 264
13 x 264 = 3,432

= 1,247 pilot's looking for a seat

(Of course, the final number might be something less than 13 pilots/aircraft due to the retirement of the DC-10 and continued parking of the 727)

Info I posted on another related thread.

I think they are using a different metric/different verbiage.

....at least I hope so.

************************************************** **

OK --- first thought, what's up with now publishing an "Operating Fleet Plan" vs the previous "Fleet Plans".

At first blush, it looks like the overall fleet shrinks significantly; however, does the word "Operating" imply this reflects the # of jets we actually plan to fly each day (i.e. Mon~Fri) vs the # we own/lease?

It is my understanding, that as of Jan 09 there were 80 727s on property and we "scheduled" 57 per day ---- note, the difference between # on property vs. # scheduled.

Comparing the # of jets posted in the Nov 2008 "Fleet Plan" (FP) vs the Feb 2009 "Operating Fleet Plan" (OFP) we have:

Acft -- FP-May 09 ~ FP-May 10 / OFP-May 09 ~ OFP-May 10
727 -- 78 ~ 69 / 50 ~ 52
757 -- 9 ~ 21 / 7 ~ 16
A300 -- 122 ~ 124 / 99 ~ 84
MD10 -- 73 ~ 80 / 60 ~ 57
MD11 -- 58 ~ 60 / 48 ~ 50
777 -- 0 ~ 4 / 0 ~ 4

What are our current ulitization rates of other acft besides the 727?

I think this data is important to fully understand how much the fleet is actually shrinking.

Discuss.

What Hull loss??? The FP increases in every aircraft except the 727. We are not even familiar with the new term OFP are we? All this tells me not knowing the current OFP is that there is going to be a shift of fly from the A300 to the 757 and 777. So unless the system changes radically from now to May 09 not a lot of concern for losing pilots just redistributing them to different aircraft.

Everyone breath through your nose. It may be a typo or an incomplete picture. The question has been asked and some clarification is coming.

Keep an eye out for message lines...probably be quite a few in the coming days as these kinds of questions pop up.
