And, Bid to excess goes to training in Seniority order, bid to be excessed goes in reverse.

777FO/100% 727CAPT/100% vice
727CAPT/100% 777FO/100%

In this instance, if you had received any passover pay for HKG Cap in the meantime, wouldn't you have to pay it back?

Yes, you would have to pay it back. He never did receive the passover pay because nobody jr. to him had checked out yet.

I'm one of those 38 excessed 727 Capts. I have a MD-11 training date coming up, after all this excess stuff is supposedly going to be done. I'm trying to string it along, but didn't bid the 777 F/O for many reasons. Questions is, I really don't care which WB F/O seat I go to, but if on the excess I bid to relieve and switch to the Airbus, do I go to training after those from previous bids? I know the order for bidding to relieve is in seniority order, but what about training across bids? What if I bid 777 F/O now?

When 18 of the 38 excessed 727 captains bid 777FO, all of their existing training dates were cancelled. Many of them could have gone through both training cycles. The company chose to extend their time at captain pay over the cost of the interim training. Even if you are integrated into the current 777 training letter it should delay you at least another 7 months. It could be significantly longer. I'm considering the same bidding strategy.

I was actually thinking more towards someone in my situation (junior NB Cap) who might be inclined to bid HKG CAP for passover during the excess, receive the POP for a while, and then actually get assigned to HKG and refuse to sign.

All that passover has to be paid back.

How would you be "assigned" to HKG? There would have to be a bid and the guys over there would have to hold something "stateside" before there was an opening. Unless they opened a MD domicile over there I would think you would be pretty safe.

Yes, you would have to pay them back. Not sure, but if you could hold widebody L seat on another bid after the HKG, but before you had to train in HKG, that would work. Probably wont happen though....a wide body opening up that you could hold.

You would have to pay it back, but you should look at the specifics of the payback. If I am not mistaken, they can only take 25% of each paycheck until you have paid it in full. Also, you should consider the 401k specifics, if the economy goes up, you stand to make some money off of the extra money that they contributed while receiving the pop, and with the raise that you got while receiving it, you might be able to afford to max ot your own contributions for a while. Not to mention, that the union would owe you money for the dues that you paid.
